OK, maybe the bit between 8pm and 9pm please. I would really appreciate it. Smile

The best Comic Relief night of recent times - without a doubt!

Spider-plant Man was far better than I expected, Peter Kay was brilliant - as was Catherine Tate, while Little Britain also hit the spot. For me though the best thing was seeing Smith and Jones back on screen!

The only weak point IMO was Alistair McGowan and Ronni Anconna - their Big Impression is now quite dated. I was also surprised that BBCi (on Freeview) didn't at least have a page on the bridge with voting details etc.

One thing that has annoyed me since though is how BBCi, Digital Spy and Teletext - and most the media - treat the Fame Academy final as the highlight of last night, giving Comic Relief a secondary mention.

Fame Academy was a highlight last night - but certainly not "the" highlight.

On the whole a great show I stuck with until the end of the live segment! Children in Need take note - despite keeping the Big Hair theme this Red Nose Day didn't at all seem like a repeat the show broadcast in 2003!

I agree that Children in Need night is stuck in 1997 mode and needs to evolve big time!

Great end to the live show of RND last night!! They even rolled out John Cleese's minute silence again! Chris Evans (who aside seemed like he was hosting a school assembly Laughing Confused ) did his best to keep everyone entertained in the early hours, despite a few slow moments. Jamie Oliver on drums, Drunken Fame Academy - not to mention Craig Revel-Horward's amusing attempt at I Will Survive!, Evans flogging his sofa and the re-appearance of Will McDonald (from TFI Friday!) as stage hand. Best bit was at the end when everyone did the conga to Amarillo and marched out the studio! Brilliant! Cool Very Happy

Roll on 2007!

One thing I noticed last night is almost all the reports on Comic Relief were new - I think only the John Cleese clip and the Billy Connolly thing were from previous years.

Also, there were only a handful of music performances (not inc Fame Academy) - all of which were commissioned for Comic Relief. Comparing this to Children in Need which seemed like a second-rate concert with artists plugging their latest songs every 20 minutes.

Just looking at the ratings for Friday night, I was wondering if people think the Children in Need and Comic Relief should be simulcast on all the BBC TV channels (except News 24)?

Also, I know it was on BBC Prime - but what about BBC America/Canada?

Well hopefully now that Gaby Roslin has bullied her way out of Children in Need there maybe changes ahead.

What's betting she's replaced by Natasha Kaplinsky though? Rolling Eyes I don't think the changes to CIN will be that big. After all what they're doing does pull in masses amount of money and at the end of the day that is all that matters. If they mess around with the show they could risk losing what's most important....money!

God - from what I saw of Eurovision they were awful together. But I think your right - she is the BBC presenter of choice at the moment.

Didn't they bring in Craig Doyle with Terry and Gaby a few years ago?

As for the format - it's a risk worth taking. The show has been quite frankly awful for the last few years - and while Comic Relief has double the amount it raises each RND in the last few years, Children in Need has only increased slightly.

Comic Relief changed their format this year and it worked. I was watching thinking how much better CiN would be if they had a live band like Jools Holland - then remembered they did.

One thing they need to do with CiN is have better merchandise. I'm sure they could raise millions by putting cuddly Pudseys on sale nationwide - and changing some of it's features year in, year out, like the Red Nose.

They do sell little cudley pudseys, T shirts and pin badges, they're usually all the same every year though, and usually available from Asda.
