So, it did well - with 9.4m viewers, and a peak of 10m - the best rated show of the festive period.

I quite enjoyed it, think it could quite easily become a six part series. The BBC needs a comedy for people over a certain age to replace Last of the Summer Wine.

I also enjoyed it, but have memories of watching open all hours as a child. My family also enjoyed it, however there are many negative comments on digital spy.

I thought it could have been a lot worse, and I'd give it a chance as a series, though it was still something of a shadow of its progenitor. At least it wasn't cut to death like most sitcoms are these days (series 3 of Miranda, I'm looking at you), although there were some clunky edits.

It was painfully unfunny. The setting needed to be updated, nobody operates a corner shop any more where all the goods are behind a counter. Putting Granville in a more modern setting would have more comedic effect. I see no reason for a full revival in the present form.

Yes, I saw it as nice gentle tribute to the original and as a show it showed some progression in the lives of the cast whilst most things hadn't changed. A full series would be silly though, it was bound to be a massive ratings hit but it wasn't laugh out loud funny.

Exactly. The till could have still been bought out under the pretence their current one had broke. Indeed the till stole the show for me - and that's probably out of nostalgia rather than anything else.

I suspect a series is inevitable now.

Really? I know plenty of shops that still exist like that.

Me too, especially off-licences and Post Office/newsagents.

Would love to know where all these 70's throwback corner shops are. Where not only the booze & fags are behind the counter but all the general groceries, cereals, cleaning products etc. have to be asked for.

There was lottery branding outside the shop, but nothing inside, can't imagine Granville getting to grips with that.
