Could someone tell me who that rather sexy Wink looking lady at the end of the olympics promo is?

Does anyone actually watch to the end?

The chess piece tumbling over is my cue to change channel, I'm afraid.

Yes I agree. Apparently £110,000 to make and for what? let's face it, if you want to watch the Olympics then you would anyway. Making these hugely expensive, obscure TV trailers for something that sells itself is a waste of money. In my opinion, the £110,000 could have been put towards strengthening the schedules on BBC1. But as usual, the BBC marketing and presentation team seem happy to waste licence money and make something that gets shown so often that no one even notices it when they should. Overkill is a dangerous thing, especially when you want to attract viewers. annoying everyone with repeated showings is just turning them away. (i think it was £110,000 per frame but can't remember what the Radio Times article said).

Well I think it's a very good trailer - sums up the spirit of this year's Olympics using the Ancient Greek Myths. Well made and good to watch!

because of course £110,000 would pay for an awful lot of stuff.

<sigh> So much negativity and bile... It can't be good for the system.

How about some cheery 'silly season' stuff rather than the number of negative posts on here at the moment?

It's cliched and predictable and the strapline at the end is thrown away. But it'll fill a space on someone's showreel.

That's not the point. I don't believe the BBC should be wasting thousands of pounds of our money on trailers. It'd be bettter put towards other programmes and causes. The majority of the people the trailer is aimed at will be watching the coverage anyway. Most people are not interested in watching several minutes of trails, they tune in to watch their programme.

I don't know of anyone that says "Did you see that trailer for XYZ last night?". It's usually "For gods sake, why do they need to show so many irrtating and pointless trailers". I'm not saying the BBC shouldn't advertise it's coverage and other programmes and services, but surely £110,000 on a trailer is OTT?

It is the highlight of the BBC's Summer Schedule: Why shouldn't they spend money on advertising it??
It happens every 4 years, it is a special event - plus this year it has returned to the place where it all began, making it more of an event than usual.

I'm sure if the BBC had churned out some shabby trailer for the Olympics you'd all be complaining about where our licence fee was going blah blah blah.

Can't you just enjoy it for what it is??

i'm not one to bang on about how fab the midlands is - but as viewers of bbc midlands and heart of the country will no doubt tell you, the modern day olympic games have their origins in much wenlock, shropshire.

I'l agree with that. The problem with the trailers on the BBC is this current obsession with only having about two that exist. Why can't a break between BBC1 shows have a trail for a BBC3 or BBC4 show in it (and one that's not a masked advert for freeview?)

not at all. For a start I have heard people say that particular trailers are fab and then complain about them being spoiled by the repetiion.

Regarding the precious money though, think of it this way.

Casualty costs about £400,000 an episode if my memory serves me correctly. It has already got everything in place and is a long-running thing that can trundle on quite happily.

This trailer had to be commissioned, designed, and everything regarding it had to come from scratch *once*.
