Just heard that the next regional news on ITV will not be until SATURDAY lunchtime - that shows disregard for the regions. Nothing this evening or on Boxing Day.

Oh well further consolidation I suppose.

Sad

There's never any regional news on ITV1 on Boxing Day. The same goes for New Year's Day, this has been the case for years

I think it's funny that the ITV News Channel is running what looks like a normal rolling news schedule, the only news channel to do so. They could have repeated episodes of Tonight with Trevor McDonald and thats before they even think about making anything new.

I have also been very surprised at the coverage on the ITV News Channel.

Out of all the news channels I expected them to repeat the rugby world cup match, the ceremonies and loads of other things from throughout the year to easily fill the airtime.

BUT NO they DIDNT!

Sky News had a look back at somethings at half past the hour later on in the day throughout Christmas whereas even BBC News 24 had better coverage than SKY!

It was great to see Andrew Harvey on Christmas day and throughout the festive period!

A rare Saturday appearance for Nick Owen tomorrow on the NC.

Also Sian Jones is doing another stint on the channel

(not that I can see the NC here in Bournemouth due to the lack of a wideband aerial!)

I have just been watching So Rahman on the ITV News Channel. Is this something he does often or is tonight his first night.?.

It must be his first night on the ITVNC, though I think he is more of a freelance as someone had a link to his website and it said on there he actually did some presenting for London Tonight, or it could be part of his contract at Granada, but in this case I don't know if he is working for ITN rather than Granada.

Though I bet Granada News are slightly buggered as he is the only presenter who works over the Christmas period.

I believe he has made an appearance on the News Channel before, though it was a daytime weekend shift.

The News Channel probably can't afford the rugby rights ... at 6 grand per show of Jonny's kick it's a bit too much cash for ITN

Well if that was the case, why has the final been repeated on the ITV News Channel about five times?
I thought that ITV were allowed to show it as they hold the rights to it, its only other broadcasters, like the BBC, who must pay vast amounts of money.

Yes, NickyS is wrong or just ignorant of the comments on this thread. The ITVNC has been repeating the World Cup Final ad nauseam since it happened. ITV, as the host broadcaster of it don't have to pay the fees required of others.

And in any case, ITN don't decide the schedule of the NC. ITV (Carlton and Granada) do. ITN provide the news content and journalists.

I think you'll find that the RFU actually own all the rights to all the pictures - they just licence ITV to be able to show them but at a certain point those rights will revert to the RFU and all broadcasters will have to pay. It may not be as much for ITV but I bet the RFU are making as much cash as possible out of it. Same applies with Olympics and F1 the rights are owned by the organisations (or Bernie E) themselves not the host broadcasters.

Great to see Owen Thomas back on overnights, much better than So or Lloyd. It ould be great to see him in the day, I really think he and Felicity would be a good pairing for the mornings.
I emailed and mentioned this and he replied:
Quote:
Thank you for your kind words... can't say it's great to be back but at least i've got new year off as well! Happy New Year to you. Owen.

I thought it was very nice of him to take the time to email back, though I really thing he is better than just pre-recorded overnights.
Though when they use two presenters, you never know, we may see more Owen.
Though a Morning News programme with Owen and Felicity would be excellent!
