Not great practise for a channel to put newsflashes in a caption like that. If you're interested in the story you're not going to be waiting around until 7pm to hear it, you'll be off to Sky or the BBC

What are they doing watching another channel in the gallery when they're meant to be producing a live TV game show? Laughing

I would assume it's standard practice to have Sky or BBC News in the gallery during live productions, you know in case war breaks out or The Queen abdicates.

Was the newsflash put up by the BBC at the studio in Bristol, or overlaid at C4 HQ?

Most probably done at C4 as it was in the C4 font.

BBC resources manage the studios but they wouldn't have anything to do with the production of the programme, they certainly wouldn't decide to put up captions

I wonder if the decision was made as result of making the comment and then someone at Channel 4 panicked and felt they needed to confirm it. I can't remember incidences of something not that major breaking into programming, especially for a channel without a rolling news outlet.

That's what I was thinking, if they really deemed it needing a mention they would have probably slotted in a live update from the newsroom at the next break as they have done in the past.

Must say that apart from an issue in running the titles earlier this week tonight was the first live show where it felt like things weren't running as smoothly as usual with the graphics, often overlaid over shots where they shouldn't be with Noel and the player behind the graphics. They were quick to switch to another shot when it happened, but it happened more today than it has all fortnight.

Maybe something to do with their current set prevents that from happening?

Can't say I noticed that today. I did notice the moment the stedi-cam operator walked into the shot of the player at the table it then switched to the shot from the stedi-cam.

The Queen abdicates? The Queen will never abdicate.

That sounds very likely, a throwaway comment isn't really the way to break news. As I say it's considered bad practise for a channel to do such a thing... it just makes everyone turn over

I don't think that's really an issue for most live programmes, if something major happens that requires the production to do something then the presentation department of the channel involved would soon be in touch.

These days it's just as likely that someone in the gallery heard the news via Twitter, text message or similar
