itv1 xmas idents

BBC Weather uses the BBC One ident in its opening sequence.

Scottish and Grampian have not been using the xmas idents alhough they have been using part of them for their promos with 'Christmas' at the start(previously seen on this thread with UTV branding) and then the Eskimo dropping down onto the Scottish TV square at the end. They did the same thing last year with a Robin I think it was.

Ha! You see, even people associated with Granada think Leeds' presentation / branding is a load of rubbish!!!

Erm, this is a stupid question, but what is actually transmitted from Leeds at the moment?

Yorkshire TV, Tyne Tees, Granada and Border.

Possibly (CraigV says yay, Nick Harvey says nay, Nick is probably more reliable) Anglia, Meridian and maybe even Channel starting in the next couple of months.

I've heard directly by a friend who works for ntl that they have been testing some new equipment at Leeds, ready for Meridian and Anglia continuity to start from February. Given that ntl are the technical contractors, it seems highly likely that this will go ahead.

I don't honestly know if the itv1 generic look will start on January 7th though. CraigV seems to think it will. Whilst I am sure there is going to be an itv1 generic theme from 2002, I'm uncertain about the date given by CraigV. On the other hand, I am fairly certain I have already seen this new yellow/blue/white ident by mistake on Tyne Tees. This was played out one night, a few nights before the christmas ident started. What I saw was basically the same as what has been described..... based on the christmas ident, blue and yellow blocks in the background, and looking similar to the sceme used for the itv to itv1 publicity promos.

As I have said before though, it is still perfectly possible that this ident is the generic version of a new dual-branded one which simply has not had the regional logos added yet (or probably has but CraigV has not seen them, as he hasn't seen the alleged purple regional ones either)!!! Especially when you consider the positioning of the itv1 logo, why would it be toward the bottom of the screen?

As for Meridian / Anglia, all the evidence does seem to be going that way (moving to Leeds). The only thing that bothers me is that from what Nick Harvey has said the Southampton staff may not have been handed their redundancy yet, which seems a bit nasty on the part of Granada if that's the case.

The ident I saw the other night had the [itv1] logo in the same position as that of the Christmas ident. Although the one I saw may have been the generic version and had been played out by mistake, it certainly didn't look strange with the logo being towards the bottom. It animated just the same way as the Christmas ident, but again from memory, I can't quite remember it exactly, considering I saw it even before the Christmas version made an appearance.

What I do remember is that it used the hearts theme music, it had the word 'subtitles' in the top right hand corner, and it had the [itv.com] logo at the bottom. There was no GR/N/DA logo though I don't recall. It had blue and yellow blocks in the background, and these were moving. I haven't seen the ident since, so I can't remember much else.

I know you would like to see a new dual-branded ident, Jason, wouldn't we all? But, I don't think this new ident would be suited to having a regional logo on there as well. I've tried putting together some mocks of it, and I've also tried putting regional logos on there, and I just can't get it to work. It is quite possible however, so lets wait and hope. In the mean time, I might try and get a good mock of the ident up on some webspace in the next couple of days.
