Anyone care to speculate what will happen re: ITV1.

Will there be a big rebranding of the channel ?

Will all regions get new idents ?

Will there be a generic ident for all regions ?
(perhaps with the exception of STV & UTV)

Will there be new break bumpers, trailer captions ?

Will they just doctor the current idents ?

Will the hearts remain a theme ?

When do you think we will se the first ITV1 ident ?

Will Carlton reject the idents in favour of their own versions ?

Will the ITV monkey get its own series ?

These and other questions should be discussed here.

Well they're obviously changing something if they're calling in that design company, whatever they're called. I hope that we'll see regional idents, as GMG are apparently keen to re-regionalise their channels.

And yes, I hope that the ITV Digital monkey gets its own series.

And that man who says 'Monkey'

He's so cool!

I've also heard that Carlton aren't especially keen on their Carlton name on all regions - this is why HTV hasn't been changed to Carlton.. So I wouldn't be surprised if Central and Westcountry make a come back!

I would say the new idents will make an appearance in September with a new season with some new programmes. I personally hope that the hearts are cast into the dustbin the whole idea is cringe making to me it's like this example from Drop the Dead Donkey:

Gus: '...after all, these are the caring 90s.'
Dave: 'Hang on! Hang on! This is 1991 - who decided the 90s would be caring?'
Henry: 'Lots of heartless s***s who work in advertising.'

Anyway, maybe we've gone full circle with standarisation and in September we'll have a full blown regional identity in each reason with barely a mention of ITV1. Like in 1991 when the ITV identity was rejected each region went to their own distinct identity and barely mentioned ITV. Maybe it goes in a 10 year pattern and in 2009 when ITV is a single company we'll go back to a standard image then another regional identity; etc etc

I really doubt that, the whole idea of this ITV1 rebranding is to re-establish the 'ITV1' brand amongst the ITV Digital network. I think that in the new idents ITV1 will be the main focus of attention, with a small mention of regional identity. I don't know if it spells the end of the hearts or not.

Over here, we don't get the hearts anyway. UTV have let them slip through on one or two occasions, between 'This Morning.' I see them regularily on Boarder as I'm often on the coast where I can catch both regions. Their presentation is very different to ours in that it is quite obvious that Border is part of the ITV network, whereas UTV never mentions ITV nor broadcasts any of it's adverts. Not even the 'ITV Drama Premiere' trailers make it through!

Do any of the idents, or promos, or announcers say ITV 1 -- or is it still ITV or the respective region?

They don't say ITV 1 at all.
We still get 'and now on ITV...' and 'From ITN, the ITV News with......'

And 'This is Yorkshire Television..... (well, you do in yorkshire!)

I don't expect the 'ITV News' will change upon the arrival of ITV1. After all you don't have BBC1 News. The only evidence of ITV1 is if you have an ITV Digital box, channel 3 comes up as 'ITV 1'.

Slightly OT but wouldn't this be a nice option to have later this year! Smile

It certainly would! Very Happy

I hope they put the West sub-region on of Carlton Central, then I will get my local region. Smile

How are they going to get around problems like this?
