I cringe every time the form-up animation awkwardly twitches into the completed logo.

That annoyed me so much!

If we had the expertise, we probably could've done.

My problem with the TSW logo is it represented absolutely nothing. That was official.

Logos don't have to represent anything, there are many examples of those which don't.

ATV's 'eye' didn't really signify anything other than a blatent copy of CBS. I'm not sure what a 'knight on a horse' has to do with East Anglia, and I was always baffled by Border's 'chopsticks'. Very Happy

Me too. You would have thought they could have fixed that in advance.

However, they simplified the ident after four years, and whilst not as flamboyant, certainly wasn't twitch-inducing.

"TSW's symbol was an abstract design representing palm trees, rolling hills and water; features typical of the region"

There was a video of a designer being interviewed and asked what it meant, and he said it didn't represent anything.

Wasn't there always a short version around, right from launch in 1982? The few early networked TSW programmes used a shorter ident, I'm sure. Did this have a similar 'jump' in it?

The logo was abstract, the business going on in the ident before that point even more so.

There are some that would say the ident was too technologically advanced for its time and therefore maybe something simpler should have been used.

When does that Channel TV ident actually date from and how long was it used for? It's always been the region that seems to have the least information available.

Yes exactly. It wouldn't have been very difficult to animate a smoother formation. It's almost as if they misjudged the positioning of the green things so the initial animation didn't quite form the logo.

The first time the ident was played, they tried to patch up the awfulness.
