I can't help but notice that at least three times I have seen a bit of a picture error with the screen being positioned more to the side then the centre. One example includes when Austin's "Pimp-Mobile" was bouncing around and about to be transported, the screen seemed to have moved more to the left, concentrating on Basil, and I remember the car being in the centre of the screen. Also, when the car appaears in Studio 69, the same thing happened, but to the right, cutting off a bit of the car. Does anyone know what is going on?

I haven't been watching, but could it be a pan&scan version? Where the camera is electronically moved to the action because the dimensions of a movie picture are not the same as a TV picture and so it has to be chopped off?

The original of Goldmember is presented in a 2.35:1 ratio, roughly 21.15:9, so when this is cropped to 16:9 you have to lose some of the picture.

To be honest, I've only just thought about the screen format. However, I have the movie on DVD, and I recall it being in 16:9 format, and I don't recall seeing any picture cut off.

I'm guessing the DVD will be a letterboxed version in a 16:9 format. So even on a widescreen TV in proper 16:9 mode the picture will still have a letterbox on top and bottom, so it can show all of the picture without having to pan&scan.

That is how it appears in the original film, it's not a cut. It's taking the mickey out of regular rap videos when they are broadcast on normal tv

The blurb on the DVD says "WIDESCREEN VERSION: Presented in a "letterboxed" widescreen format preserving the 2:35:1 aspect ration of its original theatrical presentation. Enhanced for widescreen TVs."
