Maybe the same way the 4:3 BBC regional newsrooms opt into the national news... or by arc-switching?
Having said that I can understand your suspicion when someone new registers and starts telling us about changes... especially when the username ends in '...INSIDER'. Yeah, right!
As I understand it, GMTV certainly will be re-vamping (at least) and going widescreen on Tuesday 31st. Don't know about titles and graphics changes but it seems likely that these will be updated too. As has been said, regional newsrooms may ARC or the opts may simply switch back to 4:3 in the same way that ITV News currently switches to 4:3.
I think GMTV is in desperate need of a major relaunch. The current set is stuck in the early nineties, and the titles look as if they have been stolen from an American regional news programme.
Hopefully, the relaunch will enable the graphics to be less cluttered and more restrained, with the set based in the former London Tonight studio.
Also, regions capable of 16:9 should use this format, with 4:3 regions remaining in 4:3; definately not arcing everything into 14:9.
Well the sofa's going and there auctioning it too through the gm.tv website in September...Being replaced by a "new round-the-corner style chair" apparently!
If it is transferred to widescreen, that should make for some interesting camera angles when interviews are being done. Perhaps they could have both presenters in shot whilst doing an interview?
As for the 4:3 switchover, we get ARC changes all the time in our region, most of them not done properly and about 5 seconds into the advert or whatever it is, so another ARC change won't bother me!
I do hope they make a decent set, that other one still reminds me of TV:am!
Hopefully Eamonn Holmes and Fiona Phillips will dissepear with the re-launch too! Please god!!
