Ok, we recently got the above (see http://www.pacefreetoview.co.uk/ for more info) and it's basically one of thows digital recivers but you dont need to pay a subscription. Well im new to digital and all thows 0's and 1's so I need some general help, with the use of it and what some of the channels actually are, so here are my questions.

1. Because it's digital, will I still get my regional news or LDN? if so can i select my normal region?

2. Why is BBC Parlement audio only?

3. Why does BBC Four not work?

4. Why does BBC Choise not work?

5. What is BBCi? a channel or something?

6. What is television x?

7. Are there any other chanels I should get other than... BBC One, BBC Two, cebbies, cbbc, itv1, itv2, qvc, news24, itn news chan, c4, c5. ?

Hope someone can help!

I know the answer to a few of those questios:

You will get LDN without having to change anything

BBC Parliment has allways been audio only on
DDT/ex- ITV Digital.

BBCi is digital teletext which is not availible on the pace box you have - allthough im not sure if a future software update released by pace could fix this.

Yes you will get regional news on ITV1 and BBC ONEbut not on BBC TWO.

2. Why is BBC Parlement audio only?

Because there isn't enough bandwidth for the BBC to broadcast images. There are a number of multiplexes which is where the channels are stored and these multiplexes can only hold a certain number of channels. The BBC is pretty much at full capacity.

3. Why does BBC Four not work?

It does work. As of 7PM.

4. Why does BBC Choise not work?

Same as above.

5. What is BBCi? a channel or something?

BBCi is the gateway to the text service. Don't know why they assign it a channel.

6. What is television x?

A non-existant porn channel.

Nope, that's it.

Why's you get a Pace box. On all accounts it's crap. You shuld have waited a bit longer for other models to come out.

It depends : On BBC1 you get regional, but BBC2 will get LDN

2. Why is BBC Parlement audio only?

The Beeb never did have enough space on digital terrestrial to carry both pictures and sound

3. Why does BBC Four not work?

It does; just after 7pm as it shares time with cbeebies

4. Why does BBC Choise not work?

Same reason, but with cbbc

Its the interactive text thang but as the pace box doesn't yet have the right software (which will be available in July apparantly) it can't use it. It has its own channel coz that's how the whole thing used to work, dunno why they still have that in fact...

6. What is television x?

When it WAS broadcasting it was an, ahem, adult entertainment channel

That's about it! (unless some other company who wins the space that used to belong to itv digital sets up free channels!

Hope this helps!

So why is it comming up (not picture) on our tv? why come up att all if were not supposed to get it?

And when can I press the red button!!!!!!?
M@914 posts since 8 May 2001
Well since your box doesn't support interactive features, pressing the red button ain't gonna do anything. the other coloured buttons are for use with interactive features. You can still press them though if you want.

You won't be able to get rid of TV-X but it no longer broadcasts on DTT so there's nowt to worry about.

Television X does nowt now except show a MHEG caption does it not.

Think yourself lucky you don't have an ITVd box, then you'd have ALL the defunct channels still cluttering up the space.

BBCi - Channel 17 doesn't do much now. The i-Bar is the main entry point. I think it'll go when the second multiplex is implamented quite frankly.

I see what you mean, it didnt even ask for my region it went to ST on it's own
