Is this not old news?
I knew about this over a month ago, here's me thinking it was common knowledge!

It was a very strong rumour but AFAIK no official press release had been given until now.

Anyone know what's going on regarding ITV channels?

I thought there was due to be a launch of an 'ITV Sport' channel along with ITV, ITV2 and CITV on DSat by the end of the year.

But now that ONdigital is becoming 'ITV Digital' surely ONsport 1 & 2 will be renamed 'ITV Sport 1' and 'ITV Sport 2'

Yes, they are seriously considering renaming the proposed ON Sport (with the nationwide league etc) as ITV Sport, which I presume is the replacement for ON Sport 1 and 2, except on Sky and cable as well. I believe it's to cut down on advertising or something, because ITV is a well established name already.

Fully expect ITV Sport to replace ONSport when they take over live Nationwide matches next season and ITV get Premiership highlights. Football First on Saturday afternoons will move from ITV2 to main ITV. Will the rebranding mean that the cross promotion rules will be relaxed and ITV can actually mention the existence of the digital channels, unlike ONSport at the moment.

Realisticly though Sky is now more of a household name than any other network.
For example, how many peopl say 'We have satellite TV'?
None, 'we've got Sky' is the norm.
To be honest, whilst financially it may make sense, as OnSport nor OnDigital can be directly promoted by ITV without payment from OnD, I doubt it will have that much of an effect, and if anything it will confuse people even more.

Correct, but how many people do say 'we've got SKY'?! ITV is the most watched channel in the UK so logically they are the most recognised brand name.

If SKY Digital can have SKY One, SKY Sports, SKY Travel, there's no reason why ITV Digital cant have ITV, ITV2, ITV Sport etc.. It may well confuse people further but you can't blame bosses for wanting to try it.

As so often is the case, I disagree. For starters, Sky is not more of a household name than any other network. When asked to name a TV network most people will tell you BBC or ITV before they get to Sky. And I don't believe it will confuse people at all, people instantly recognise this brand, more so than they ever did ONdigital. It is probably the biggest threat yet to Sky's dominance in the digital TV market.

Keep in mind OnDigital was considered to be the biggest threat to Sky when it was just the brainchild of Mr Green at Carlton, bear in mind Granada had nothing to do with OnD at first, Carlton and Sky were going in together.
To be honest, you are very wrong, Sky is a household name, if someone asked you if you have digital, the most likely response would be 'Yeah, we've got Sky' or something similar, ITV Digital will confuse people simply because of the fact that no-one has ever heard of ITV Digital, OnD said themselves that OnD was reaching the point where it had been heard of in about 99% of households, why change it? For money reasons only.
ITV Digital is not at all a household name, IMO most people on hearing that would think it was actually another channel, not another service!

I don't know who to side with here. Cheshirec, it sounds to me as if you're suggesting that ON Digital should be renamed Sky! We all know that On Digital is an inferior product compared to other digital TV services available, as reflected in the sales, so a high profile name, like ITV, will inevitable allow it to become more noticed in todays digital society (ooh, that sounded good).

And if you ask me, ON Digital is an awful name. Perhaps it is better suited to it, then?!?!

Cheshirec, I think you under estimate peoples intelligence, and no doubt it will all happen in a blaze of publicity and cross promotion with ITV. ITV Digital may not be a household name yet, but ITV is, and whether that be ITV.co.uk, ITV.com, ITV Sport, ITV Drama, ITV News, they recognise it. And Sky's service is called Sky Digital and they have Sky One, Sky Travel, Sky Premier etc. So your argument doesn't really add up my friend.
