A decent channel on Freeview, thank god!

Sounds like a big big con to me. DAVE?! I mean come on! Worst channel name in history. What's DAVE got to do with the programming? Most of the programming was golden, which adds some sence to the names UKTV Gold and UKTV G(old)2.

Oh come on, free your mind, it's a masterstroke.

Who ever remembered the name UKTVG2? Noone!

Who will remember the name Dave? Everyone!

I just love how they've stuck 2 fingers up to all these marketing tosspots and come up with a name just because it's quite funny. I mean - the screenshot of the logo has a giraffe on it! A GIRAFFE!

Genius.

In the same way that BBC One would be renamed BBC Is GOD with Noah's Ark in the logo screenshot? DAVE might be better remembered because it's stupidly unusual. UKTV is disassociating itself from one of their best channels.

I'm reminded of FilmFour last year when it needlessly rebranded itself in time for its Freeview launch, which hasn't gone down well with some of the TV Forumers and prompted a wave of mock designs.

The difference being BBC One is not trying to reposition itself as a comedy channel.

Seriously, I can't understand how you don't *get* this. Your argument about "golden" programming is flawed because the programming simply isn't that. The channel has developed of late into a slightly intelligent comedy channel with a male slant, and when you think of the programmes shown (Buzzcocks, Top Gear, QI etc) it seems kind of obvious that the UKTVG2 name and brand just don't do it justice.

Interesting that UKTV History is becoming 7am-6pm so that Dave can be 7am and 3am.

As mentioned above...
Quote:
The relaunched channel will see UKTV History remain at channel 12 on Freeview, but its DTT slot changed to 7am-6pm.

...I believe at present it's on for 7am to 1am (I think). As it's launching 15th October I guessing there will be a reshuffle of the timesharings, with Virgin 1 launching soon.

At present (approximate):
- ABC1: 6am-6pm
- UKTV Bright Ideas: 6am-6pm
- Ftn: 6pm-6am
- UKTV History: 7am to 1am

By mid-October...
- Dave: 7am to 3am (presumably taking UKTV History's slot)
- UKTV History: 7am - 6pm (presumably taking ABC1's slot)
- Virgin 1: 24hrs (presumably taking UKTV Bright Ideas and Ftn slot)

Looks like Freeview could be improving at this rate. I wonder if this means Bright Ideas is to be axed, as on cable and Sky it serves little purpose as customers (usually) have access to the other UKTV channels.

There hasn't been news that has made me smile for such a long time ... this has! Can't wait to watch Dave!!

The name is based on the idea that "everyone knows a bloke called Dave".

Finally - marketing that actually makes SENSE!! BolIocks to ITV being at the "heart" of programming, or everyONE wanting to watch The One...

According to the Digital Spy article, "Dave" is the replacement for UKTV Bright Ideas on Freeview as it'll appear on Channel 19.

UKTV History would only be on Freeview 7am-6pm. Dave's there 7am-3am. So I can only assume the two channels are swapping streams and Smile TV is moving back to 3am (or, preferably, going away altogether) as it currently shares UKTV History's downtime after 1am.

I can only assume Virgin 1 will take Ftn's current slot launching on October 1st, then UKTV History and "Dave" will swap streams October 15th. I can only presume ABC1 will be showing a static closure caption for a few days after October 1st, but after that what Disney do with the stream we have yet to find out. Might flog it or put something else there.

Film4 Logos

Here is the topic from Mock Designs. I'm having trouble finding the actual topic about Film4's launch on Freeview. While UKTV are high why not rename UKTV Gold as 'CHAS'?

Well the wors thing they can do is let anybody in a suit near it - suggesting it be called UKTV Dave or "DAVE - part of the UKTV network"... That would be like shooting Dave in the face with a sawn-off shotgun.
