Wash your mouth out IanPrice! Mr Corbett is truly a living legend. Put him on the nationals more often!

I love the plummy pseudo-English accent, all the more strange when you consider he spent most of his childhood in America IIRC. But it's more than just RP; it's the sort of accent a well educated foreigner would have with just a hint of hypercorrection (sorry, the linguistics training speaking here). A star at any rate.

dont get me wrong, he is a star. Because he isnt on that often its fun to watch him, with his unique style. If he was on all the time I would probably eventualy hate him!!
But if you want a detailed ,accurate proffessional forecast (like rob mcelwee or john hammond gives you), swich it off when daniel is on! Wink

"the odd spot of rains popping in"

whats with this " rains " he keeps saying?!!... and " popping "!

thats all from me, for now Wink

I agree with you to a point - except that I think his forecasts are just as accurate and professional as those of anyone else (Rob McElwee and John Hammond are, incidentally, also excellent).

The other key thing with Dan is that, as I have said before, you tend to come away from watching his forecasts knowing what the general weather story is - because the forecasts are memorable the information contained within them is memorable too.

With other forecasters it is easy to ignore what they say and have no idea what was contained in the bulletin - there's little chance of that with Dan!

Another thing he seems to do, is a very nervous glance down at the floor, just to his left.

For instance, when he's saying "So if you're taking the kids to the park, or driving to the seaside, or something like that" and as he says "something like that", he looks down at the floor to his left!

Perhaps Mr Fish is there with a shotgun on the floor, daring him to say something stupid! Wink Laughing

on the subject of weather, is Mr Fish standing on a slope?!

Or maybe Corbett's interfearing with him Wink

TV Forum's favourite forecaster was on News 24 and the Breakfast forecasts last night and is doing the same tonight - true classics as ever!

On the question of Dan returning to BBC1, I think I see what they're doing here. He seems to do the weekend overnights every other week, which involve him appearing on Breakfast on BBC1 the next morning. Perhaps they are gradually phasing him in, testing him out on the BBC1 audience before they unleash him on the primetime forecasts.

On a separate point, does anyone know when Michael Fish is meant to be retiring? I thought it was October, but I haven't seen him anywhere on the BBC for weeks now - perhaps he has gone already?

Mr Fish was on the BBC One's National Music Test a few weeks ago.

Gotta say it, last night's Dan Corbett forcast at 00:57 was spot on. Including the brilliant "wheel out the old mower" with hand gestures as if he was pushing a lawnmower out of the shed. Fabaroony.

I think we need to separate Dan Corbett from Jon Hammond. JH is a professional weather reporter whose mission is to inform. Dan, like Andrew Marr, is the entertainer - who likes to engage with his audience and relate to them. People don't want to know how close the isobars are, they want to know if they can go out without a brolly.

I first saw Dan after the One back in the late 90s, early 00s, and I think that's his best place after late-night N24 - lunchtime. His style and subject matter would go down well with the home-in-the-daytime demographic, doncha think?

Am i right in thinking that's where their "monitor" is placed, so they can see where they're pointing?

No - they get "reverse vision" in the autocue, so they can look to the camera and see where they're pointing. BBC weather presenters don't use autocue for their script however - it's all "ad-libbed".

That is true - but so i understood it, they also had a similar monitor to their left - so it looked like they were looking at the map on the screen, whereas they were actually glancing at the monitor instead.

their map is rear-projected onto the bluescreen used to CSO them.

I am new to this forum, and Dan is my favourite forecaster. I lost interest in watching weatherforecasts when Ian McKaskell (speling) retired but now Dan is back on my interest is renewed. I have started a group for him on Smartgroups, but up to now there is only me in it. Im not sure if it would be classed as Spam on here or not,so wont post the e-mail address. Pity.

I'm sure if the group is relevant (which it sounds like it is), no-one will consider it spam. I'm sure a fair few people here would appreciate it - so post away! And welcome to TV Forum!
