I seem to remember they had 'celebrity' guests on their last series. David Schneider was in some kids drama/comedy at the time
As a teenager at the time of Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow I was in the target audience and watched it religiously just like SM:TV when Ant and Dec hosted it but for Comic Relief 2005 they did Celebrity Specials as for the first 4 series no celebrities were allowed then in the final series they had 5 children and 1 adult who was a celeb that took part and if they won a prize it would go to a child at home and they also had pro-celebrity bogies with dick or dom against a celebrity like Chris Moyles, Sara Cox and Carol Vorderman being examples. Famously the only celebrity that wouldn't get involved in the gunge etc. was Rachel Stevens and was mentioned every week in the last series.
David Schneider played Uncle Max which was basically Mr Bean for children and interestingly started on CITV in 2006 then moved to CBBC the following year.
Of course he isn't. I can't believe everyone actually believed that. Derren Brown would be my guess. The internet also seems to think it's a full blown standalone special that's separate from the SU2C telethon. So there's going to be more disappointment when it's inevitably revealed we'll have to sit through Davina McCall being insufferable to watch it in several annoying bite-size chunks.
I just don't think it's the genuine comeback everyone's expecting. I really wouldn't be surprised if it's more along the lines of 'Cat's Does Countdown'. A hilarious irreverent p*ss take. *shudders*.
The thing is David Tennant isn't that eccentric as a bloke. I know the other two were actors playing a version of themselves but you gueineily beleived they were a bit weird even slightly dark Tennant doesn't have this quality.
I agree it'll be 20 mins worth of footage filmed in the attaction spread over 3 parts. It won't be the big budget reboot The Sun are predicting but could do enough to whet the appetite for a reinvention.
Somebody from the Crystal Maze attraction said on Buzzfeed (and picked up by BBC News) that this will be filmed on their premises. Which is understandable really, since the original maze used on the show was done in an air hanger and was apparently still standing a few years after the show ended.
I'll say this for the attraction though, they must be doing something right. 4.9 out of 5 on Facebook reviews, near enough fully booked until next March (that will almost certainly be extended again since the original aim was only to run for three months!) and soon even more exposure through the Channel 4 one off. And they said retro was dead.
Fair play to them they made it work, possibly by not really compromising on it.
If it did go to series with its own set you'd imagine they'd look to sell the format internationally and have other countries use it for filming, although may be some issues with Fort Boyard that would need resolving for that to happen.
