Come Dine With Me certainly has a sustainable audience, and a successful one, otherwise Channel 4 wouldn't dedicate whole afternoon's on a weekend to show them back to back for several hours at a time. I'd understand if that were only More4 or E4, but it's Channel 4.
It's the equivilent of a Hollyoaks Omnibus, but for cooking.
EDIT: After reading the press pack properly I don't actually think this is what is meant by them considering The Crystal Maze. ITV had been thinking about doing a show dedicated to Bushtucker Trials for some time now, as it was the highest rated part of I'm A Celeb. This seems more like that.

I enjoyed it, it made the trials on I'm a celebrity look embarrasingly lame in comparison. I do hope that it does well in the ratings, though would they create a whole series of celebrity editions and how would a series work when the pilot has been spread over two days - I did like how they left the programme on a cliffhanger too.
Overall it was a very well devised & produced programme and it was nice to be on ITV1 primetime and not be a soap, crime drama or reality show (even if it did have celebrities).
I quite liked it, it seemed a bit over produced in parts and some of the interviews were a bit pointless. But in all it definitely has potential to be a hit. Last nights figure was 3.6m, so whilst not a real success I wouldn't call it a failure either.
If they do commission a full series, it would be best if they had around 8 celebs and knocked one or two out per show over x number of episodes.
