Countryfile is moving to a Sunday tea-time slot on BBC One, with new presenters Julia Bradbury and Matt Baker, and John Craven taking on more of a reporting role.

Ben Fogle and Ellie Harrison will front a new rural-affairs series, 'Country Tracks', in the old Countryfile slot.

Stupid move, nothing cures a hangover like a bit of Countryfile at 11am. Country Tracks sounds like a cheap rip off version of Countryfile, with all this cost cutting going on at the moment, surely its more sensible to produce just the one programme?

You'd think so wouldn't you. And they can't replace the Craven!

If it's moving to prime-time you'd think a midweek slot on BBC2 would be the best place for it - perhaps compensation now BBC1 are nicking Masterchef off them too.

The new programme sounds like the old Countryfile from years ago.

Sounds like the one in the morning will be more for farmers and the like whereas the evening one will be a more general populist programme. Think Farming Today versus Coast

I guess once the F1 starts the morning editions will be bumped out of the schedules quite often - perhaps that's the thinking.

Well, if you call twice a year "quite often".

Watchdog is on, and Julia isn't on air so I gather she's left, to make Countryfile her main priority.

Interestingly, Anita Rani from The One Show and Rogue Restaurants seems to be the new female presenter, alongside Nicky.

Actually the reason for Julia's absence is the recent allegations about discrepancies in her Virgin Atlantic frequent flyer account - http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/consumer_advice/latest_julia_statement.shtml

In Fact it is 4 possibly 5 races! Smile

Is this actually BBC's response to the new "Country" series starting on ITV1 on Thursday evening?

Well...

A new series, named 'Countrywise', is to start later in the year in a Thursday evening slot, supposedly a crossover between the One Show and Countryfile (Clicky!). But the interesting thing is it's presented by 'former' watchdog presenter Paul Heiney, who (to my knowlege) is still very much on Watchdog.

So when Anita appeared, I'd assumed she was going to replace Paul when he leaves, but had been drafted in early to cover for Julia. So we wait and see on that one. Also, is it not possible Julia had been planning to leave Watchdog for Countryfile anyway? You never know...

Starts on Thursday at 730pm - they are already advertising it!

BTW this Anita - is she the one that was a former contestant on The Apprentice?
