Granada North West Today
Going back to the Slade video that gets played on the music channels - look what I found in a recent Guardian interview with the man himself.

Quote:
What was your funniest performance?

We did lots of TV in Europe where we’d be on with a juggler or a camel. We did one in the 80s when Merry Xmas Everybody went big again; it gets shown again every Christmas. Me and Don [Powell, drums] had been drinking for hours, and were blasted. There’s snow coming down and Don decides to play it like a heavy metal drummer, playing all these drum rolls like Animal off the Muppets. A total shambles, but great telly.

That actually looks half decent.
But that bloody font... Ugh.

I agree though, the overall look isn't bad. They almost look decent, not something I could say about UTV that often. Is this their "last hurrah" before it gets very "ITV" looking in the new year?

Agreed, that font is vile.
It's not as if it is their Christmas font, it's the font they have been using on screen for some time now. It looks awful, they never use any different weights or sizes of it and it never looks smooth on screen.

UTV presentation is horrible and (despite this rather decent effort) whoever is responsible should have been sacked a long time ago over it. It's laughable and completely devoid of any proper imagination, inspiration, talent or skill. It really does look like some kids run it using programs they got free on a CD with a computer magazine.

UTV have absolutely no money so when you say a free CD with a computer magazine there may have been no other option...... I jest.

Still, it's a better effort than what RED BEE came up for on BBC TWO.

UTV Ireland's incidently is just their normal presentation with a red filter and a bit of sparkle added, though I haven't seen if there is a Christmas ident yet.

I have seen at least two Christmas idents from UTV Ireland, they follow the theme of the normal idents with scenes of Christmas activities and sparkles added around the logo.

That font is going to look particularly awful when it's used to add "Northern Ireland" to the bottom of the ITV standard ident next year.

I'm hoping this is an assumption.

For now - the UTV brand stays.

Don't be ridiculous. The UTV brand will be gone by this time next year, and the regional programming will be all but gone shortly afterwards if ITV get their way.
