Given the amount of hints on TFI Friday last week, hardly surprising. But a good move - I might even start to watch it again now! 😉

About the best choice they could hope for. What happens next will be interesting - really do think now whatever Hammond and May decide it's probably best for the show to just have a clean slate and a complete new team.

It will be interesting to see what happens with his Radio 2 show, presumably Top Gear would require him to be away filming for significant periods.

Maybe not, perhaps his role will be the (mainly) studio based anchor to link the show, and the others will do all the location stuff ?

Just a random example to illustrate, Anne Robinson's role on Watchdog ?

Hmm..
Can't help thinking sticking it on now is a mistake.

Up against the Christmas special of Call The Midwife on Christmas/Boxing Night - now, that would be better.

They should be competing with ITV, not BBC1. Top Gear and Midwife clashing would harm both BBC1 and BBC2's ratings.

Of course those two programmes famously chase after the same audience. Also I'd be very surprised if ITV aren't broadcasting anything in that time slot.

Chris Evans first tweet "as presenter" confirms he won't be leaving Radio 2... just like he confirmed he wasn't in the running, and confirmed he wasn't not in the running.

Don't forget we're talking about Christmas Day. I can see arguments in many families when Mum wants to watch Midwife and Dad wants to watch Top Gear...

I suppose he might do what Jeremy Vine does when filming Eggheads and have an extra couple weeks of someone standing in for him in radio.

If anything goes it'll probably be his One Show roll. Most of the UK based stuff should fit around the breakfast show quite easily, while the foreign excursions aren't to numerous in comparison and not much different from him (or other DJs) taking short breaks to fulfil other TV commitments anyway.

I suspect if they've got any sense they'll avoid a big foreign trip to begin with.
