Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things but I suspect Children in Need ultimately benefitted from events last night, both in terms of the unfolding news surely meant there were more people watching TV last night and probably channel hopping, and also in terms of donating to the cause being something people could do when they were completely helpless to do anything regarding the events unfolding in Paris.

Yes, the telethon is awful and long has been but I don't think they'd ever been such a clear contrast between good and evil on BBC1 and BBC2 than there was last night.

I watched Children in Need last night from 19:30 to midnight, and the rest on video this morning. Well done to them reaching a colossal end-of-evening grand total of over £37 million.

I watched it on BBC One HD / BBC Two HD, so during the three regional splits between 19:30 and 22:00 I saw the London regional splits from Tower Bridge on BBC One HD, even though I was watching in Bath (BBC One West region). However I recorded the entire show from start to finish, so I was able to see the BBC One West regional splits from Gloucester Cathedral on video this morning.

The selection of entertainment was excellent, especially the choirs around the country singing simultaneously, the various pop acts and Harry Hill's 4-minute TV review (I liked the way it included that brief glimpse of Tony Blackburn complete with Ga-rou-ra-rou-rounk as a tribute to TOTP).

All in all, a much better assortment of entertainment than the garbage we had to endure on RND 15 back in March.
