If Dave was on, away....

Seriously - he'd have been the guy under the blanket being led into court.

How rude, Naylor... nothing less than I'd expect, mind you.

And I was in the report on the schools closures changes, albeit very briefly

How old was he? I seem to remember that he retired in 1998 but came back for a few years afterwards.

Although not a fan of Border TV, I am genuinely saddened to hear of Eric's passing. He was - quite simply - Mr Lookaround. I seem to remember him visiting Duns around 20 years ago for a piece about the new Berwickshire Activity Bus; he had all the kids lined up in the school playground to sing "Mr Gus the Activity Bus" as it came into view. A wondeful piece of television. Whenever you watched Lookaround and Eric was presenting it you knew you had a friend on the box. He'll be sadly missed.

He was only 65, he lost his battle against cancer. But although he retired in 1998, he still guest presented Lookaround up until last year, that was the last time I saw him present. But Fiona was very upset because she was good friends with him, and she tried not to cry at the end of the tribute but she did. It is very sad news indeed.

It is very sad indeed, even more so that it was from cancer. I didn't see the piece last night (I only found out that Eric had died via this thread) but it must have been hard for poor Fiona not to cry when doing the piece on his death - he was one who appealed to all ages (I grew up watching him on Lookaround - which possibly gives a clue as to my age!) and was loved by all. The world of regional television has lost one of its true greats with Eric's untimely death. Crying or Very sad

I was very upset to hear of his death, he was also the face of Lookaround that I grew up with. I had no idea that he was as young, because he would try anything and everything to keep presenting, and when he eventually retired I thought he must have been in his early seventies, but he could only have been 58 when he formally retired from Border.

Eric's funeral took place today - so some of the old faces from Lookaround in the report.

53 days later

There was no in-vision presence of Jon Mitchell on the Border weather today, it was just a voiceover. Did this occur in the other former Granada regions today ?

Yes it was the same on Tyne Tees.

Perhaps Jon had a scuffle in the boozer last night.
