Strange that he, Evans and Bacon have all transitioned between the two.

Bacon isn't a DJ (as far as I know), he presents a show on BBC Radio 5 Live. They play very few records. It's not really strange though, is it? I could name hundreds of television presenters who have gone on to do radio, and vice versa of course. When asked how to get in to radio, Iain Lee recommends getting your own Channel 4 show as the first step.

I say name them.

A lot of those people started out in radio so I wouldn't strictly call them presenters who then went on to do radio.

I'm REALLY bored by the path this thread has taken!

*aims to get back on subject*

I'm very interested in the fact that the Big Breakfast may be returning (the rumour is enough to make a lifelong lurker post for the first time!!) Brilliant timing what with Daybreak struggling and BBC Breakfast heading Up North with a new team of presenters. Channel 4 could be on to a winner here but IMO they need to decide what they're aiming for:

A) A two week nostalgia fest (bring back Johnny Vaughan, Liza Tarbuck and all their old features over the period of the Olympics)
or B) A proper long-term return for the show (in which case new presenters, limited returning features but the same overall anarchic feel)

I don't think it's possible to do both.

Floating on the "if" lilo here but should they decide to do a two week stint say during the Paralympics should C4 get to air it (and tie in nicely it would too) then I wouldn't expet them to refuse to make it a bit more permanent should ratings be good and opinion is positive. If.

However, odds are against them because they could do very well over that two weeks and lose it all once the nostalgia wears off, the old presenters toddle off and people think they're watching RI:SE again, just slightly more irreverent. So yes, technically they cannot do both given the odds but they can do A leading into B if A is good enough to hold up to what it was doing in the 90's with little sign of slowdown and B keeps the momentum going. The core concept is one that can still work, just needs to be adjusted so it isn't just grabbing the nostalgic types but also building a new audience.

The UK needs a Big Breakfast now more than ever maybe?

It is worth noting C4 have denied they've any plans to resurrect the show this week.

As for Johnny Vaughan - without a doubt my favourite BB host, but when I see him on anything now I don't particularly like him.

I said TV presenters who went on to do radio which is what I listed. Some of them may have done radio before they did TV too but that's irrelevant.

Anyway, I don't think anyone cares about this and I include us two in that too.

I hold similar views. I think Richard Bacon and possibly Chris Evans are the only presenters from The Big Breakfast who I would like to see going back to something similar to The Big Breakfast again. The other presenters have all gone too far in other directions. Often directions that don't interest me as in the case of Johnny Vaughan.

As I said, I am not familial with his recent work but I assume, like most people, he has changed during the past 11 years as has television. I don't think introducing records on local radio can be compared to presenting a largely unscripted national television programme anyway.

The big radio slots like breakfast shows are a lot more than just 'introducing records'. I'd say that something like the 8am paper review on The Big Breakfast or the phone-in quiz element at 8:50 is just the sort of thing that you hear on radio stations every day

He's also on 6Music which does play a lot of records. He's been with 5 Live twice and inbetween those stints he was on Capital and XFM... they play lots of records too!

Why are you commenting on things that you're 'not familial with'?

I think new presenters are needed, Russell Howard would be a good choice!

Paul O'Grady says he hates mornings, so i can't see him returning to TBB.

I think it would be wrong to bring back old presenters, its needs a fresh long term plan, if they get the topical humour and features right it could thrash the oposition

Why has this Thread not been locked?

Firstly this rumour started from a newspaper (Not the best source is it) Rolling Eyes
Then channel 4 say they have no plans to bring back the show.
So why on earth are we still talking about it,
I'm not having a go at anyone but this thread is absolutly pointless.
Just face it its not coming back.
