BBC squashing all credits still more

I really don't like these ECP's. They are so ugly. The previous set were fine, and had space for everything the BBC want to include.

I think they changed it because it wasn't "brandy" enough..

We've been reliably informed by buster that ITV's new end credits will look like this mockup:

Personally these credits acheive everything from a commercial point of view. They have ample space to advertise the next episode / what's on next etc, plus the credits are readable.

The BBC ought to at least remove the big space in the border or make the credits display in the whole bottom half rather than bottom quarter, for the sake of readability.

God, and they wonder why they're haemorrhaging viewers.

So they're bringing Richard's long lost twin Michael then! Wink

That design is far more fit for purpose than the BBC's piss poor effort, which as I've said numerous times is the reason standardised end credits have been bought in over recent years - to avoid having to reduce credits to an unreadable box in the corner.

...because we all know the average viewer gives a **** about the credits after a programme.

But the whole point is that they do care. The end credit sequence can be very important, especially if there has been a very dramatic scene at the end. The music can play a very important part in bringing that to a conclusion.

The credits are as much a part of a programme as the rest of it. What's the point in broadcasting a programme if you aren't going to show it all?

I record everything I want to see on Sky+ so that I can miss out the adverts. So all these ECPs are pointless to me as I would've missed whatever they were babbling on about!

If broadcasters are going to switch to this type of ECP (as they have in the US and Aus) I'd rather they did the credits like this (rather than the 3 columns or unreadable BBC solution!)

And like the current ITV ECPs, when no promo is running it can air full screen with the credits in the centre:

And it would work well for scrolling credits too.

I really don't understand why they don't ask programme makers to have scrolling roller credits, then they can superimpose any ECP they want over either the top or bottom half of the screen without more hassle than necessary. Channel 4 use/used this style for extended FilmFour promos over the end of films.

This practice is used on Cable channels in the USA, where they superimpose the ECP over the edited sped up version of the film credits, or they retype it into their graphics.
