Only occurred to me afterwards but I think you're probably right about the music. Thing is, for media watchers it seems half-hearted. And let's face it, many of the people interested in this show will be people in the media and politicians who travel the country.
I agree also that it needs a bit of 'TV'. Thing is though, is this how most of the ITV political shows operate around the country? Scotland Tonight is an exception as STV has thrown resources into it and tried to make it something that has appeal beyond those traditionally interested in politics. But this new show has come about as a box-ticking exercise to keep Ofcom happy, so it's never going to have the same attention.
It is a perfectly efficient, good show, but Scotland Tonight changed the game when it came about, even making Newsnight Scotland look dated at times.
I'm assuming they've decided to use the music as they'll probably continue to take the Scotland Tonight head-to-head debates - as they did in 2013. The debate shows aren't branded as STV and IIRC Scotland Tonight almost 'opted in' and out of the previous show. My thoughts on the show - it had the political substance required but it desperately needs some 'TV' in there. It's missing the personality of Scotland Tonight.
