Calendar's background for the late bulletin is about 5 hours out, looks more like dusk than the current pitch black. Studio shots on the Emley version look a little suspect, can't exactly put my finger on it but looks like it might be interlaced - I'm guessing that it's the pre-recorded one tonight.

The Leeds backdrop is simply awful. What about York with a view of the river Ouse? The East backdrop is much nicer

Rather amusing programme tonight from Uncle Peter live at Westminster

You're assuming it's a live picture.
Have you seen the bridge at night?
The surroundings are pitch black. No good for a backdrop.

I'm assuming nothing of the sort - I'm commenting on how the fact that it looks crap because it is so clearly not live.

I'm sure they could have found something that is lit up at night.

Apologies - I suppose they could go back to the Sheffield station.
The trouble is with any recorded backdrop is time of day / weather and seasons can be at odds with what's actually happening. I actually like the Humber Bridge backdrop - it makes a change from a bland city view somewhere.

York Minster maybe?

Might be okay for 'North' viewers but no good for the Belmont patch.
I think the Sheffield station they used before was good - until it snowed heavily and the put up the Christmas decorations...

The Humber Bridge one is fine for Belmont though?

The Humber Bridge backdrop does look a bit odd when it's the same (?) shot of the sunset used for the past few weeks when the sky is dark outside at the time and the screens on the corners of the set show the view of the tidal barrier with a pitch black sky. Speaking of the backdrops, the one they use for the pan-regional parts is just horrible.

Well it's in the Calendar "South" patch not "North" which uses the Leeds background.

I'm not sure what your point is. The Humber Bridge is in the half of the region that is served by the Belmont transmitter, what used to be called Calendar East.

The Leeds background is the half of region that is served by Emley Moor.
