It's easier to post a picture of yourself with a hashtag on Twitter now than it is to actually do anything.

Changing a few 0s to 1s on a website isn't really going to stop Joseph Kony, or ISIS, or bring back the Nigerian kidnapped girls, or support a French satirical magazine, or indeed control guns in the US.

But you get your face on TV and get a few thousand retweets, so that's OK.

Like there is actually anything else anybody could do in response...

DON'T BE SO BLOODY STUPID!

Calm down Ian. Michael Moore did quite a lot in response to Columbine. He made an Oscar-winning film about it.

And on the wrong side people like Glenn Beck do an enormous amount of harm to the US despite being ostracised from network and cable news and basically spouting crap from his garage to the internet. See also Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Ann Coulter and all the rest of the rightwing nutjobs America seems to present on a daily basis as being the voices of the people. Maybe if the news organisations actually WERE the voice of the vast majority of the people of America who are actually sane and represented the views of the 55% who are dissatisfied with current US gun laws then something would get done. But no. It's easier to post a selfie with some bits of paper printed out in Calibri. That way you can pat yourself on the back and pretend the problem has gone away.

And exactly what did making that film achieve??? Also-fricking-lutely NOTHING!

And you can add to that list Michael Savage, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Monica Crowley, Hugh Hewitt, Laura Ingraham, John Gibson etc... I've been keeping a wary eye on these nutballs for over 10 years, and their brand of rank stupidity is now losing listeners and advertisers, and a lot of stations have changed format away from Conservative Talk, because it just isn't selling anymore.

If you honestly think that, then that opinion comes from pure ignorance about the reality of trying to bring in reasonable gun controls to a nation of gun fanatics. Tell the NRA that the country needs reasonable gun control measures to prevent incidents like this, and they will practically accuse you of treason.

There is no posting on social media and then kidding yourself that the problem has gone away. We ain't that naive or stupid. But until the NRA stops effectively buying politicians, it ain't ever gonna change.

So, realistically, what can you do? Just say your piece on social media and move on, because you know deep down, nothing will ever change.

If it does change it'll be in the next 15 months - in 15 months there's a new President and new Presidents rarely do anything objectionable in their first term especially with the ever looming second election but the US federal government moves very slowly so it probably won't happen anyway. Ah well, that's democracy.

Don't want to get political but Sanders FTW on gun control.

Yeah, 2005 was when I got introduced to the depth of political whoremongering that is Conservative Talk Radio. Prior to that, my encounters with it had been quite short, due to the fact mosts talk radio hosts in the US, use an inordinate amount of inane waffle, which annoys me no end as a listener. Get to the point or points you're making and move on. So most talk radio is incredibly boring to listen to.

At the end of Friday's (American) Football show, the crew all join the presenter in holding hands for Alison and Adam.

Some people are so cruel. The reporters and anchors in the Roanoke VA market are still understandably skittish and on edge after their colleagues at WDBJ-7 were murdered live on air.
So you have to understand why they are exercising cautions whilst on air.
Then some numpty does this....

Dickheads are often attracted by the presence of a TV camera, nothing new (or unique to any country)

Nice clickbait tone you're using. Also, you have to question the employer's motivation for uploading this video to Facebook. Basically they are sending the signal that if you scare the sh!t out of their reporters live on air, then you'll get lots of attention and a special post on their Facebook. Great deterrent(!)

I guess they probably want the thousands of views, and hundreds of shares and likes too.
