Not a bad decision though I was hoping that Zeinab Badawi would get the job.

Who's going to replace Stephen Sackur as Europe Correspondent? It is one of the top foreign postings so I imagine it probably will be one the top reporters like Matt Frei or Ben Brown.

Doubt that Ben would want Europe correspondent - he's special correspondent on the Ten so gets the choice of all the big World stories. Also Stephen isn't the only Europe correspondent - there are a few based in Brussels. As for Matt - being a Washington Correspondent is a big gig and he's not been there that long.

Jeremy Bowen could replace Stephen as Europe Correspondent. I am also disappointed that zeinab didn't get the HardTalk job.

Hope to still see her though on BBC World News.

Yeah, thought it could be Jeremy but he is tied to Rome until at least July, and Stephen is taking HardTalk over in Aprill. My preference would be Hilary Andersson as she seems to be one of the BBC's more experienced and highly regarded reporters. However, as Africa correspondent, she doesn't get much exposure on the television news - it would be good to see more of her in the UK.

Perhaps I am being naive here, but it strikes me that presenting Hardtalk, which broadcast late at night on News 24 (with, presumably, very small audiences), is quite a step down from being one of the BBC's main Europe correspondents.

It seems like a bit of a demotion for Mr Sackur frankly.

Don't forget HardTalk is a BBC World programme too - and has a substantial global audience.

It's a programme that manages to get top-level interviewees.

Even if the audience is small in absolute terms, I guess HardTalk is watched by a lot of influential people around the world.

Yes, HardTalk is a very credible and highly respected programme here in BBC World land, and is frequently talked about by viewers. The progarmme is aired four or five times a day, so that all geographic areas have at least one outing during prime time.

It's just a pity that Tim Sebastian's latter part of his tenure diminished the programme's acceptability and credibility a little bit, as his style became annoying, as opposed to abrasive and probing, never allowing his guests to speak. It was always refreshing when one of the relief presenters turned up from time to time.
