I know if i watch BBC 10 I'll probably get something more in depth than I would've watching BBC NC at 9.

I agree. I know this is a Sky thread, but the Ten on BBC One really does seem to be on a high right now in terms of content. Really good special reports on domestic crime, health and science in recent weeks, plus really concise coverage of Trump (hard to keep up with) and tonight, excellent reporting from Iraq. I might record the Sky show next week to look at the pres, but I'm not tempted to shift my viewing.

Fair play for trying though, I agree there's nothing wrong with them having a go at getting some of the ex-ITN audience.

Remind me again what the script of the promo actually says...

Remind me again what appears in the studio behind Anna Botting...?

That is my point. If the product is superior to the rival's, then why nick their branding? It's laughable. I'd be just as aghast if the BBC were moving from ten o'clock and Sky suddenly went all beepy with globes everywhere.

I know Sky News branding has been heading in something of questionable direction lately, but this... Shocked

I think that - anywhere else but here - any sense of righteous indignation would be confined to those who wouldn't choose to watch the programme anyway, so it MUST stand on its own two feet editorially, and if I have anything to do with it - and I do - it will.

This is a presentation forum, so - shock horror - prepare to have your product judged on presentation...

Sky News at Ten looks like ITV. No two ways about it.

And I shall... on Tuesday... after people have seen more than just one shot.

Remarks like these do make me question how many people on here are Gods with nothing better to do.

Anyway, perhaps the shot of Big Ben is reminiscent of ITV News at Ten, but let's not forget how many news channels have poached presentation styles from Sky News, for example standing rather than sitting behind a desk. Also, and I think someone mentioned it earlier, globes are a standard (or certainly have been in the past) stock for news channel branding, but I can only assume by the frequency of those occurrences that no-one ranted about that.

Should we not spare any "godlike judging" until after the programme has aired?

Incidentally, if a Tesco Extra store looked like Sky Central, then perhaps they wouldn't have seen their profits chipped away by Aldi, although, with all the levels, it would make getting your trolly about a little tricky. If anything, it makes me think of Apple more, and we all know how successful their stores are. To me, and of course opinions are subjective, it looks like a modern approach to a working environment, which has been adopted by many other companies, and indeed looks like a rather nice place to work. People remark that the on screen view looks dull and boring, do these people prefer the now tired, and overly gaudy and busy sets in use at Westminster or the Sky News centre then? Or would you prefer something altogether different?

While the opinions on this forum might be somewhat polarised, I don't think average Joe/Jo on the street would give two flying figs about the so called Glass Box on a conscious level. If Sky News started broadcasting from a Costa Coffee then maybe at that point they would.

At some point, it would be refreshing to hear some positive comments, rather than constant negativity. If it is so offensive to people, turn it off and don't view it again - if you keep looking at it, perhaps there's something you do like about it above others...perhaps.

I'm willing to be proven wrong, but didn't ITN pioneer standing news presentation with 5 News back in 1997?

This is my favourite post that anyone has ever made on TV Forum.

As such, I can only apologise in advance for what's probably about to follow!

Perhaps you're right, and probably so. But honestly, I don't really care, and I hope they were derided at the time if it was the case. The point remains, it kind of goes round in circles, news wall presentation for example. Who started that? Doesn't really matter if it was Sky, they have all pretty much jumped aboard that bandwagon. Unrelated, but London Underground tube map - that style seems to have been adopted world over.

It's all about the content - not about an image of Big Ben, which quite frankly, as with a globe, no one company have exclusive rights over. It's not as though they've pinched a poster of ITV News At Ten, and crossed out the ITV and scribbled Sky.

As to the person who made the 1999 observation, I'll say it again... the key difference is reach. Freeview, Sky itself, and their various rivals, plus online and mobile platforms mean the potential number of eyeballs is exponentially higher.

You've missed a key point that it doesn't matter how wide a (potential) reach Sky News has, if the product is inferior to what is being offered elsewhere.

Furthermore, I'd still personally like to see globes featuring in Sky's graphics, but alas I fear that is like trying to take a cruise on the Titanic. I'd settle for some punchy idents and music, both add complexity to brand that is often overlooked.

Is the product inferior thought? We haven't seen it yet, I don't think? Or am I the only one on here who isn't psychic?
