In the few minutes I did actually watch I heard the BBC commentator say a line about how many millions of years the volcano that Edinburgh Castle sits on is... yes because the belief in an earth hundreds of millions of years old is a well known part of catholic dogma!

'While there is little consensus among scientists about how the origin of this first microscopic life is to be explained, there is general agreement among them that the first organism dwelt on this planet about 3.5 - 4 billion years ago.' - 2004, International Theological Commission, headed at the time by the current Pope. I think you've got the wrong branch of Christianity.

I haven't caught up with much of the coverage; has there been much time given over to any protesters? Also, is BBC World carrying the coverage, or even the international BBC channels?

Don't misunderstand me, I do think some situations warrant a presenter being on location (e.g. something on the scale of the 9/11 attacks where most, if not all, of the programme will be centred on that story) but for the most part it's a complete waste of time and, in many examples, detracts from the programme rather than enriching it. Surely the powers that be could have worked out that hosting a programme from a live Mass would be challenging from an audio perspective?

9/11 coverage was of course anchored from the studio on every channel, due to the entire eastern seaboard of the US being decimated.

Laughing

Oh I meant to say - Burley was interviewed by Metro, and when asked about uttering that phrase she said, "Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia"!

Good god, she can't even research her own quotes - no wonder she's so dim about other stories!

Yes, I'm aware of that. Hence I said "something on the scale of 9/11" Wink

Dearie me. Did she actually say that? One wonders how she has survived so long in that role.

Who is anchoring the Pope on Sky today? Is it Anna Botting again, or JT maybe?

I think its Anna Botting and Colin Brazier leading the coverage all weekend.

As I said... not well known! Wink

Total overkill, has the BBC News Channel or Sky actually done any other news today at all?

Yes

Well I certainly didn't see anything else until he went to bed!

The threat to the Pope story giving Sky News a bit of work to do, aside from the planned events.

The media loving this so called threat. 4 days of without incident isn't good enough for the media, they want drama.

I was watching yesterday afternoon in between the events in Edinburgh and Glasgow and both the BBC and Sky covered other news. Suppose it depends when you were watching

Likewise today Sky covered other news this morning, but once the Pope's event in Twickenham got underway they carried that live for over an hour, not covering other news while that was underway
