This would co-incide with the massive relaunch that they are undergoing ATM, presumably.

I'm guessing MSNBC.com will go as well, so Microsoft will be cut out of the deal? Can't imagine they're over the top about that one.

I seem to recall, from some dim and distant memory bank, that Microsoft were looking to get out of that partnership, so perhaps not such a problem for them after all!

Indeed, Microsoft have never seen the returns on their investment, and they've been seriously looking at ways to abrogate their agreement with NBC for well over a year now. Looks like they've finally succeeded.

Ah, I stand corrected.

I knew that MS were bitter about the fact that their side of the business - the website - was doing well, and NBC's was a total joke.

I'd always assumed, though, that it was a relatively clear-cut seperation, and that as MSNBC.com was doing so well they'd be unhappy to lose it, but clearly not so.

Interesting to note that the source says to Drudge that the name better reflects what's on the channel... are we to assume, then, that there will be more of a news-focus after the relaunch, and that 'comment' programmes will go? Find that hard to believe, personally.

I never get a chance to see it myself. I do occasionally see it on CNBC and it used to stream online aswell. I always thought it was MSN where the name came from (I know MSN is part of Microsoft but still Razz)

It was reported in The New York Post on 3 March that talks were in progress to give NBC full control of the TV channel, but that MSNBC.com was not part of the negotations.

Presumably this means CNBC will stop referring to its website as "CNBC.com on MSN".

Not really. CNBC (US) don't have a website as such, rather, they have a section on MSN.com. CNBC.com doesn't really exist any more, all it does is redirect to CNBC's pages on moneycentral.msn.com. That's why its called CNBC.com on MSN, and has nothing to do with MSNBC.

As for MSNBC itself - it really should change its name. When I first heard of it I thought it was a computer channel rather than a news channel. (Indeed I believe it had a bit of tech programming when it first launched). At least put "News" somewhere in the name...

I wonder what the name of NBC's affiliate feed service will be now - it's already called "NBC Newschannel"
