BBC1 have a US mid-term election special from 11.55pm next Tuesday through to 6am. I presume it will be a simulcast of BBC World News coverage from Washington?

Are Sky bothering with anything special or will it just be the usual overnight bulletins with the Washington correspondents providing updates as needed?

I think I am right in saying that for the 2006 mid terms Andrew was in London with Adam in Washington and Martin Stanford using the touch screen.

I shall be sticking with CNN, who will have much more in-depth coverage. I enjoy US politics, so I can't stand the 'let's explain everything' approach of UK broadcasters (which I know it necessary, but annoying).

Jeremy Thompson mentioned yesterday that he was going to the US too. Robert Nesbit and Greg Milham were also covering it.

A bit more on the BBC's coverage,
Quote:
The U.S. networks have all announced their midterm election coverage plans, and now the BBC is joining them. At 7 PM on election night BBC America will air a special edition of “BBC World News America,” “US 2010 Results.”

The program will be co-anchored by Matt Frei and Katty Kay, and will originate from the BBC’s Washington DC bureau. ABC News veteran and BBC World News America contributor Ted Koppel will provide analysis, with Emily Maitlis explaining the results via–of course–a touchscreen wall. Other analysts and guests will include Time‘s Mike Duffy and University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato.

Coverage will continue throughout the night at BBC.com/news.

Coverage will also appear on the Beeb’s 24-hour international channel BBC World News and in the UK on BBC One and BBC News Channel.

I've just finished watching tonight's coverage. Although a lot of the races are undecided, CNN are projecting the House will go Republican, and I believe that will ultimately be the story of the night.

Governor Manchin (WV) winning his Senate seat means that's it's unlikely the Reps will control the Senate. Perhaps this post will be wrong by the morning.

Great coverage from CNN once again! The tempo was great, the graphics superb and the discussion lively. They really know how to keep you interested in terms of graphics. It was barely 20 minutes before you were alerted to the next big poll closings and the next set of exit polls. It's down to them that I can go to bed at a reasonably sensible time!

I've been watching a little of the BBC coverage and it seems the direction from the gallery hasn't been brilliant. Matt Frei and Katty Kay barely seem to know what's happening from one moment to the next, with pictures often popping up with them knowing what they are looking at.

Sky's coverage has been let down by HD bias. No onscreen bugs for us SD mortals?! I got a very brief flavour of the analysis coming from Adam Boulton in Washington, and it seemed great. You can't, however, keep up to date with 435 House, 37 Senate and all the Gubernatorial races with a breaking news bar and a ticker. I imagine anyone watching Sky News SD alone tonight must be fairly bemused with what's going on, impossible to keep track on the evening unless you are listening and watching intently with what everyone is saying. (Election nights are times when news is used primarily as an information service, I know it's not the UK's jurisdiction, but more information on screen would be better).

Once again, I think the BBC's graphics are just showing themselves to be too stodgy! One line of text, with a BUG that shows the current state of the House and Senate without showing what they mean (by indicating majority target numbers)? Although an improvement on Sky News SD, the graphics simply looked overwhelmed with the amount information.
