A sign of things to come post DQF

there's a whopping 90 second regional bulletin scheduled this lunchtime - after the 2m30 of national news at 12.10, which promises to be a rather messy segment on the news channel.

That's a bit silly really - the Grand Prix coverage could easily be tightened up a little to start at 12.20pm; or the regional bulletin could be re-scheduled to follow the late news tonight, as has happened before. I see the late news actually has a 25-minute slot at 10.50pm tonight.

There's the added fun that the Lord Mayor's show is overrunning a wee bit...

It seems a shame that the Saturday lunchtime bulletin is to go with DQF.

In fact I always found it strange why the Beeb (& ITV, come to think of it!) go to the trouble of enhancing regional coverage, only at the first sign of budget cuts to drop it?

Those of us in the Midlands will remember the old BBC Midlands Radio Late Show which went out across all the stations in the 90's to the early 2000's, that was perfectly adequate for most of the listenership.

Then someone in London had the bright idea of letting WM ( & CWR at the time!) do it's own Late Show, shipping the original Late Show over to BBC Radio Nottingham, broadcasting to the rest of the stations, including Stoke, Shropshire & Hereford & Worcester, which would've been better served by either rebroadcasting WM or they creating their own Late Show, as they did for the weekends!

In a nutshell, I'd prefer it if they had left things as they was at the time.

I still think whether the extra Saturday & Sunday TV bulletins were needed anyway, as we managed perfectly well with the 2 teatime bulletins for years!

If they needed extra regional bulletins at the weekend, then put them on the radio instead.

Who cares. BBC Regional News is a load of tosh these days anyway. Although ITV Regional News is of course less local, it's much more professional and watchable. Better content too.

I love your totally unbiased username!

That's an unfair statement to make - there are 17 different BBC regions, and I'm sure you haven't watched them all on a regular basis. My local news, Look North Leeds covers news very well and Calendar doesn't do a bad job either. The BBC is my preferred station simply because it is on at more convenient times, and I'm sure others prefer Calendar.

Ok. Sorry it is. But, I prefer The West Country Tonight to BBC Points West. I don't particularly think it's fair that the BBC get all the license fee money.

They wouldn't give me a job. That's why.

Where does it actually say the Saturday lunchtime bulletin is to go?
