Er, no, sorry but it isn't. BBC World has never editorially been a uk focussed channel, isn't there primarily to bring uk stories to the world and isn't (as is often supposed) a service for ex pats.

Although it did have extensive coverage, including on site OBs of the UK Olympic Torch procession in 2012, which was incredibly 'UK centric'. Even this week, I caught Open Source monopolising itself (when I tuned in at 21:30) with the Chelsea-Spurs match, as part of the Leicester City coverage, (presumably all that was on BBC World too ?).

And the Olympic Games was a major international event ... The torch relay itself was part of the build up to the games. You could take that argument and say that BBC World shouldn't have anchored all its programmes from the Olympic Park...

The local elections haven't featured on World at all this morning. I'm guessing here that the only bit that might warrant coverage is London Mayor...

I really despise Vine's green space and the way he moves around, along with all the camera changes on the map from one side to another on the floor. A static map would be a whole lot better on a screen, like Maitlis's.

You'll be jealous of David Henderson & BBC Scotland's then.

Thought they worked well, easy to follow and good use of the atrium.

I know! Very impressive, especially compared to the black box I caught Jeremy Vine using

I loved BBC's coverage. Nice graphics, just didn't like the Jeremy Vine bits. So much better effort than Sky. What has happened to them?

I find the BBC's graphics to be a mess, shoehorned into the existing design. Sky's make much better use of the space available on modern 16:9 screens.

Special programme was due to run to 6pm this afternoon but they've come off air early and put Flog It on BBC2.

Some short background clips from the BBC's Adam Fleming:

Full report on the Sunday Politics this weekend, apparently.

BBC News broke into Newsnight repeat to what they thought was the announcement from City Hall, but it isn't, so they have gone back to the programme in progress.

Apparently much of BBC News this evening has been a game of ping pong between Martine Croxall and Ben Brown with not much information to update on.

Looks like when the London Mayor result comes it will be on the World simulcast. Expected at 0:30 now apparently.

Meanwhile, Adam Boulton staying up on Sky for the announcement.

Kasia Madera now filling on the BBC, and re-playing her earlier update from Ben Brown while they wait.

Probably not as bad a decision to let World handle this as it would first seem, since Boris Johnson is well known around the world.

Realistically, there probably aren't that many people in the UK staying up for this, given that the winner is already common knowledge. So, yes, not a terrible decision by the BBC, as they can definitely justify covering the result on World whenever it finally happens.

Finally declared just after 12.20am Saturday.
