On the old Lunchtime News I often saw the floor manager standing in front on Nick and pointing to a camera on return from the break.

Did anyone feel there was a distinct absense of *real* news on todays programme? We had 12 minutes devoted to the football, then a break, life matters on cancer (again!), then a quick 30sec round-up of stories such as the Omagh bomber, and the sentencing of the policeman who killed the british couple. Then another break and an interview with Brooke Shields about Post Natal depression followed by yet another football story then the regional news. Ok, the football is a big story, and has led every other news programme but did it really warrent the coverage ITV gave it, especially when it has compressed other main news of the day into a short 'other stories making the headlines' section? Too much emphasis on features and interviews, not enough actual news!

The football is news.
Why is there this assumption that the definition of news means world affairs or politics or something 'highbrow'

I didnt say it wasnt news. What I am saying is that about 15 mins of todays programme was devoted to the football, then we had feature style interviews about post natal depression and yet another 'miracle drug' thats going to cure cancer - how many times can they do this same style report! The other news stories happening anywhere around the UK or World, highbrow or lowbrow, were releguated to a 30 second in brief section. Of course the football should have been covered, its a massive story in Merseyside (and indeed the rest of the UK) but maybe some of the other main stories such as the Omagh bomber and Al-Zarqawi's being perhaps seriously injured maybe should have gotten a greater emphasis than just a brief mention.

why don't you write into ITN if you feel so strongly? is there anything about ITV News that you like - after all, you keep watching it.

Oh, forgive me! I was under the impression that this board was for discussing tv presentation and providing a point of view, whether it be critical or supportive! Is there a rule somewhere which states my post is only valid if i say something in support of a particular organisation?
As for the reason why I watch ITV news, its the only news I can watch during my lunchbreak!

Well, it is a worthy story - not all news has to be bad - and certainly a far more worthy story than a bunch of backbench MPs trying to oust their outgoing leader!

why has the ticker been shifted up recently?

Presumably people complained it was being cut off on their widescreen TVs, now it goes out in 14:9.

It now looks a right mess on the News Channel, not aligned with anything.

It's the red ticker on the ITV News Channel that I dislike so much.
