Southend (and Basildon) is indeed a strange one being a triple overlap. My family are from Southend, and I've found that generally everyone sticks to the London region as they feel more closely associated with London. I know that Virgin Media in the area carries BBC and ITV London, not sure about Sky but I assume it is the same.

Where it gets confusing is there are areas of Southend which have poor reception of Crystal Palace due to the terrain and tower blocks in the centre of the city blocking the signal. Generally I've found that those who struggle with Crystal Palace signals go for Meridian/BBC South East instead, as the signal is excellent (probably stronger than London, Bluebell Hill isn't far and Kent's just over the water), but there are also Anglia/Look East viewers from Rouncefall (not that I've found them).

The situation was no doubt partially created by the ITV regions from the days before unified schedules and the single national ITV that we have now, when they all claimed to have Southend as part of their patch for ad sale purposes, and viewers would have gone for the schedule they preferred. These days ITV consider it to be London's patch, and that's that.

ITV sent a London reporter to cover a Southend story today which was last on the running order on the London bulletin this evening.

Vanessa Bafoe from 'let me spin my Weather wheel, #goodservice' on London Live reporting on Look East tonight, which was somewhat surprising! Lead story too!

Bit of a cock up on tonight's hand back to the News at Six after the :15 tease ahead on Look East's West opt. The trail piece played twice, cut back to George at NBH, the previous piece played again, got stuck and then played again - screen went black and then we were greeted by a shot of a camera looking at another camera in the Cambridge studio with some sort of rehearsal going out, before finally crashing back to London mid way through a report.

ITV News Anglia using a pan regional fake newsroom backdrop (not the Lightwell one, a dodgy imitation that I think Calendar might also use) from when I tuned it about 18:12 tonight - I've never seen it before and thought they are always did two entirely separate programmes now?

Were you paying any attention to whatever actual news they were talking about?

Some story that was breaking and/or of pan-regional relevance would presumably explain it?

West Country's "occasional" forays into pan-regionalism seem to be at least a couple of times per month.

The crappy-looking CGI "gallery" backdrops used by Calendar and West Country for pan-regional stuff are exactly the same, as far as I can tell. (It looks nothing like the CGI "newsroom" used by the national ITV news). Presumably all regions with the five UHD monitors for "windows" use the exact same backdrop if/when being pan-regional?

Interesting account of the goings on behind the scenes at Look East... The tabloids will have field day.

Quote:
A BBC TV reporter was the victim of a "witch-hunt" after blowing the whistle on political interference, a tribunal has heard.
Sally Chidzoy said she was targeted after raising concerns when an MP appeared to convince a senior colleague to drop one of her stories.

She further alleges she was "falsely imprisoned" by management during an attempt to seize her phone.
Ms Chidzoy also claims she was sexually discriminated against and victimised.

The tribunal in Cambridge was told Ms Chidzoy, who works as BBC Look East's home affairs correspondent, had been investigating East of England Ambulance Service boss Anthony Marsh's salary package.

She said the story was dropped after assistant editor Steve Silk received a late-night email from then-Liberal Democrat health minister Norman Lamb in July 2014

Just watching ITV News Anglia now, they've made the switch to HD.

Are all the main English regions (minus opts) now HD?

HD:
Anglia
Central
Granada
London
Meridian
Tyne Tees
Wales
Yorkshire

Border (Same studio as Tyne Tees but no HD feed for that region yet)
Channel Television (HD capable, but no HD feed for that region yet)
Westcountry/West (I think is HD capable, but no feed)

I've still got ITV News Meridian on my EPG. Should I retune?
