Glad to hear I'm not alone - I watched all the major networks during early evening and ITV News stood out by a long way. I've not seen much of the BBC News channel's coverage, but I did see most of the Six and I actually thought they understated the story. aconnell said the BBC devoted 8 minutes to the story during the Six, but ITV's coverage was at least 10 minutes or so and they had three detailed reports on different aspects of the coverage and implications; but didn't overplay it like you said BBCNicky. For my tastes, they got it just right.

If things start to really deteriorate, do you think the NC will take ABC World News live at 11.30pm or just show it at the usual 01.30am?

Don't forget that we're only four hours behind New York at the moment - the NBC Nightly News is starting on CNBC right now.

I've only seen the ITV coverage but it did the job without exaggerating, though as always in cases like this the potential damage to the US gets wider coverage than the actual damage to the smaller countries the storm has passed through - although of course there are obvious logistical reasons for that.

As for the US networks - well just flicked through them on the baqi.tv link - and they're all showing ads, so not too worried. And from a presentation point of view I do feel they seem to put a lot of graphics on to screen which actually give out very little useful information.

I'm amazed to see CNN trailing Piers Morgan Tonight as being the place to watch breaking news of the hurricane later tonight (9pm ET). I didn't think they would want to let the guy anywhere near domestic breaking news, he can't even conduct an interview in the studio well.

WNBC has a live stream:

Doesn't seem to be available, perhaps only in the US.

They've done it before. Generally he spends the hour talking to Wolf and Anderson.

Watching CBS2 New York and great job of them broadcasting right through what would normally be network programming, on their ticker they have put which channel to watch network programmes on, so I guess CBS have more than one affiliate in the area.

Channels in New York should be showing the following this evening (times are GMT)

Well just watched the last 10 minutes of NBC Nightly News - but even with such a big story tonight 6-7 minutes of that was ads, interupted for a brief update from Washington on how it affects the elections then after another break returning with little more than a plug to get continuing coverage online if you can.

Most US networks have pre-empted tonights regular schedule, delaying new episodes until next week and scheduling repeats tonight and the odd extra news bulletin. Live shows such as Dancing with the Stars and The Voice look set to air though.

How many of the main US news networks are based in NYC? I'm guessing that they will also have countless numbers of operations across the country so keeping the channel on air will never be even a thought really?

Many of the US's syndicated radio shows come from New York. The one currently on WABC has had to bring in another presenter from another part of the country as they're having power problems.

WINS, WCBS Newsradio and WOR continue to broadcast live from NYC.
