The new LA edition of Newsroom will start on September 28. It will air from 06.00 until 08.00 CET, the same slot John Vause does now. The Newsroom name stays (CNN Newsroom Live from LA is used in the promo) so the only change is John's co-anchor, with Isha Sesay replacing Zain Asher. Not sure what Asher's role will be from now on.

One thing I thought I could add to this thread was I went to Atlanta back in April and while I was there I did the VIP tour which was quite interesting. We got to go inside the newsroom, the HLN newsroom (which was nearly dead!), was in Studio 7 and got to chat briefly to the presenters and saw the start of the Daily Share as well as going into the HLN gallery, and we went into another studio (can't remember which one) which had 3 different sets in it (though wasn't on air at the time), as well as peeking into the windows of a few other bits like the Spanish & Internet newsrooms. Also one of the CNNI presenters got in a lift with us. Was quite interesting, especially actually being able to go into the stusios and newsrooms (as opposed to the people on the regular tour who only see it through windows!).

Im surprised you saw anything. Zucker & Co. pretty much closed down CNN Center domestic productions. They dont even mention CNN Center on the broadcasts anymore. They used to be so proud to say LIVE FROM CNN CENTER IN ATLANTA.....You know Time Warner execs are salivating to close it down. Even though its probably logistically impossible.

Despite the big NY move I think Atlanta is still the main CNN hub when it comes to news gathering and actually preparing the shows.

Plus CNNI is still fully located there, even though it's schedule now consists of broadcasts from several big CNN hubs (London, New York, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong & LA).

Do CNNi shows anchored from non-Atlanta studios still go through an Atlanta control room for graphics, insert play-in, outside source co-ordination (as most non-London BBC World News shows operate) etc. - or are the studios that they originate from totally self-sufficient?

Also - where do the bulk of CNN Domestic's field reports get edited, and where is domestic newsgathering (intake etc.) co-ordinated and handled - stuff like reporter deployments, production management etc.?

Yes, I think the main Atlanta control room controls all the shows when it comes to graphics and on air presentation. All the hubs do have their own control rooms but they are used for cameras and controlling the studio.

Not sure about the second question about domestic.

Obviously CNNi is using part of the HLN LA set. I think Dr Drew's show comes from this set. You can see the gray/brown "driftwood" boards above the screens.

There was certainly plenty going off in Atlanta while I was there even if there isn't much domestic production there these days. Seemed just as busy as Broadcasting House was when I went on the tour there last year.

Cameras (the control unit is probably there - but probably is remotely operated) and the robotics are actually controlled back in Atlanta:

Quote:
Vinten "is the Mercedez-Benz of robotic pedestals,” says international news consultant Ken Tiven, a former VP of TV systems at CNN. “From one control room in Atlanta, CNN International uses Vinten robotics to control newsroom cameras around the world.”

Thanks to fiber everything appears on the same network. I think controlling camera robotics remotely is a bit risky but the operators probably have snoop cameras to see where everything is.

Jonathan Mann gets ready to for POLITICAL MANN to return to CNNInternational. Apparently they are the using the only studio they have available at CNN Center. So sad

That's not true. They could have used the CNNI studio. Not sure what's so sad about it coming from there, as there never would have been many other options anyway. There's a lot more Atlanta output on CNNI than there was four years ago, which is probably why the CNNI studio wouldn't be available this time.
