My copy finally arrived this morning! I've managed to read the first 7 chapters, about how it started. It was very interesting that it suffered severe financial difficulties in late 1955/early 1956 and that ITV had to cut back on the News coverage. Though not on today's scale, in the first year they only got £200,000-£300,000 to spend on the News. Andrew Marr provides a good foreword, as he does praise ITN, but he says what we tend to think of when they cover a story, say if the Top Headline isn't Heavy News.
I've yet to read the other 300 pages or so, but it's interesting so far.

From what Charles Allen has allegedly said:
..he would give a higher profile to the ITN brand and not call it "ITV News".
So if it's taken over it will be called ITN News across the board?

I'm not saying that it's impossible for ITN (more than likely to be called ITV News after a takeover) to carry on producing C4 news, but it's certainly on the cards that they may return to what they started out as - the ITV network's news department, instead of a blanket news provider providing news for many outlets.
From what Charles Allen has allegedly said:
Quote:
"My vision for ITN would be as an integral part of ITV. If we owned it in total, I would use the ITN brand." So once again, reporters would end their reports with a proud ITN sign-off, rather than the present, bland-brand "ITV News." And that, finally, would be good news for ITN.

So if it's taken over it will be called ITN News across the board?
Independent Television News News?
That's what it always used to be called: "ITN News at Ten" translates as "Independent Television News News at Ten".
I think I might just be old enough to remember you know .
If that's the case, then why did you question "ITN News"? You ought to have remembered it from a few years ago.

I managed to delete the post... it's below your comment now. Read it. It's just a point. Does everyone on here have to be so highly strung...

I, too, was only making a statement that it used to be called ITN News - you're the one who started the sarcastic comments. Might I suggest we drop it now? We're taking this off-topic.
