It's strange how these things work out. I had to be up for the first time in ages, and so I sat and watched a bit.
I was never a fan of this set when it was introduced, and I'm not a fan of Natasha either. Dermot's ok, but I'm not a huge Natasha fan.
To me it felt like with the view that they were using they were trying to make a big impact, to make the show feel big.
I'm not sure that it does this myself. It looks very cheap.
GMTV get away with the screen print as they have the window hatching infront and lighting, plus a lower ceiling.
This is one thing I would introduce if I were them would be a lower ceiling level, add a high boarder of some sorts to cut it off, lower the lighting.
I wouldn't mind seeing a set similar to News 24's with red and white perspex, and if it would be possible adding a projection of London behind the perspex, thus giving it a real feel and something people could at least relate to rather than the BA headquarters or where ever it is.
They should try and create a homely feel, whether it be to create an apartment style studio or to just do the This Morning approach and fill the studio with many areas and a bit of tat on shelves.
What I don't understand about the 2000 look of the Breakfast set is how big it was, or at least appeared, especially seems as though they have a quick turnover for Working Lunch (followed by Newsround and Newsnight).
Of course the other option would be to broadcast from the News 24 set and maybe add a sofa area into the new set somewhere.
