CNN is the best, opening, graphics, music. It is miles ahead of these two copy cats. Cool

Well I just wanted to make it public that I voted for sky, and I would have done so purely on the basis of those fab 'cisco - welcome to the hhhhuman network' ads that are airing.

Sky has a rawer feel to it, less buffed than the NC, which I think is something that adds to the channels appeal rather than detracting from it.

Got to be the BBC News channel for me: much less cluttered, far neater. One screen I saw on Sky News yesterday had 3 separate "live" bugs, two titles, two locations... it just looked a mess.

In terms of graphics and titles, News 24 (ker- ching! ) is far superior to Sky. But its set is lousy, and Sky's is no better.

The best set of all the news channels, in my opinion, is Al Jazeera's. Yes, I know it uses multiple sets in different cities, but the Doha news centre is magnificent. The music is quite good too, but I think the BBC's music just about beats Al Jazeera's.

Not sure that you can really say that Sky's set is "lousy". It is very true that they don't use it to its full potential anymore, but it makes BBC News Channel's look very dull even as it is.

BBC NEWS CHANNEL all the way. Although it's a step back from the previous look, it's still miles better than SKY NEWS. It really annoys me there only ever seems to be one presenter standing up whenever I watch it, and it's way too tabloidy, particularly with its ticker.

e.g. Whilst the BBC would run:

"Pop sensation, Britney Spears, has taken drastic action by shaving her own hair off",

SKY would run: "Britney shaves hair - more soon!"

I voted BBC NC, but this is by no means their best look. If only they would bring back the previous set of straps they would probably have a winning forumla. The studio certainly looks OK.

Sky News is just abit too glitzy for my liking. I do watch it sometimes, just to get a different perspective on the news, but I don't like the style generally.

...and Stu I had you down for glitzy as well. I must say you've gone down in my estimations.

As for the ticker, the BBC's is truly dire, the headlines are waaaay to long, and it is tooo slow. The ticker should be used for brief headlines and updates NOT for a full story and background sypnosis, that is why we have press red and online.

I disagree on both. Each headline is both short and brief, and the text moves at a readable pace unlike Sky News where its going so fast its practically a blur.

Unfortunately I have to agree. I always used to like the big openings and the voice over at the top of the hour, but in the past year or two the whole look of the channel has gone downhill.
Arrow Single presenters
Arrow Poor graphics and a rather watered down TOTH
Arrow Lower quality of journalism (in my opinion)
Arrow That awful 'News in 15 minutes every 15 minutes'
Arrow Admittedly, a nice sized studio/newsroom setting - and yet they insist on limiting the shots, locations used etc. and I feel after 2 1/2 years of it, it does look a tad tacky - it's still more suitable than News 24's (sorry Embarassed ) three walls and a desk, but still aesthetically could be improved..I'm sure others would disagree
