I actually really, really like this idea. It reminds me of the 1991 branding with the numeral and logo stacked. I'd love to see if you could incorporate that era of branding, like the slide designs for example, into a modern design.
I don't see why a logo needs to have character in order to reflect the character of the channel. CBBC had a simple logo from 1997-2001, along with all other BBC brands. It was the idents and the other graphics that reflected the brand without every brand having to have its own, specially over-designed logo (in fact, that was the ethos of Lambie-Nairn's 1997 rebrand).

I really like them - but I think CBBC lacks character and fun-ness for a kids channel. Perhaps you could do something a bit like CITV's new logo?
