And we go right back to the beginning for it... (December 2009)

I had thought a bit later on if it might have been the description off TVA getting a bit out of sync, from the problems that hit the other night (looks like you've been having a rough few days with the hosts Mark; hope you can smooth it all out again!).

Thanks for sorting it anyway Asa. I was more happy to find my server hadn't been hacked really. Needless to say when I spotted that in the ticker this afternoon, I dropped a load of work to do a full security audit of the server just incase it was accurate. Laughing

Yes, as I mentioned, TV Whirl has hit it's 9th birthday (officially it happens the same day as TV Forum, but these days I do something a week later or it gets completely lost).

A lot has changed in terms of how we all cover pres online in that time. Video streaming online has taken off in a big way, broadcasters are looking at ways to monetize even idents, and these days every tiny change has 200 images and super HD video grabs... But as we all know, it wasn't always that way....

At TV Whirl, we take you back. Yes, as a special 9th birthday feature to the site, we take a look at a bunch of contemporary pres, but with a twist; it's done in the way it would have been covered in 2001. We have lovingly recreated clips with all the classic effects included; 14:9 letterboxing, wobbly VHS tracking (I even used the authentic equipment Laughing ), high quality mono sound, massive 192x144 HD pictures, careful editing. It's all here, and of course it's presented in the much beloved RealVideo 8 format, optimised for download size on your 56k connections.

Happy Birthday 2010

Have a fun trip back to the past, oh and keep an eye out for the 2001-pres-site-esque Easter Egg hidden in the special page too.

Oh my goodness me, you absolute GENIUS Very Happy

It's so hard to believe in this post-youtube age that all pres websites really did have clips looking like that then! I remember it took me years to see certain idents the way they actually looked - the 1968 Harlech ident for one, the early video files were practically a slideshow of still pictures!

A very happy birthday to TV Whirl - I've been a regular visitor since the very beginning, and with pres sites a rare breed now, it's great to see this one still around!

It wouldn't have truly been 2001 if I hadn't included that one....

Thanks for the kind wishes, and I'm glad everyone seems to have gotten a smile out of this little trip back, as it certainly gave me a laugh doing it too. It's surprising how long it actually takes trying to force everything through all this oldschool stuff after so long without it (RealProducer 8 was certainly a buggar to track down again!). Very Happy

All that was missing was the truly authentic analogue television signal what with Winter Hill having already passed DSO, but I still managed to cobble together I Can't Believe its Not Analogue.

An excellent idea, and an excellent way to celebrate another birthday for another site longer serving than the likes of YouTube! Happy Birthday!
