Hi

I normally browse TV Forum on Firefox, but this time I used I.E. to my surprise it was asking me to download some Active X, it never used to do that before.
What's going on?

it would be the ad at the top of the page, a new advert that your computer has not viewed before and it needs more conponents to view the ad.

hope this helps

So in short, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT.
If it is to view an ad banner then potentially you could be downloading spyware, rogue dialer software, etc.

generally active x objects give something magical called a *name*. Why not investigate this myserious object and then ask us for identification.

sometimes, the best bet is to download it as the site may be designed in flash and therefore you can not view it unless you say yes or know the security system on your computer like the back of your hand or hire someone to fix it, you can not view the site until it gets rid of flash. so read what the message says and the location of the active x, if it matches the location that you are navigating to then say yes to download or allow the computer to view it or if is from a weird location, click no to the download or don't let the computer view it.
Spybot search and destroy is a good spyware killing program, and it only needs to search about once a week, good to keep your computer safe, spybot - s&r also tells you about other threats other than spyware.
