Hi,
Been a while!

I don't usually like to plug a website. However, for those who may be interested, I've setup a small site looking at some old tv graphics. The aim is to try and re-make them, just for fun, and show you how it may have been done. I'd like ideas from you on what to try out (hence me posting here).

Two 'live' projects are on-the-go in the site and I outline how they are made through my use of 3D Studio Max.

One or two mocks will be done as well.

That's all from me. I hope I won't get spanked if this is in the wrong section. I'm not sure what it is classed under?

Bye for now.

Good stuff James. Although, at the moment, my laptop is dead (hopefully just the power supply), so I can't actually download and watch the video, the site is looking good and there is plenty to look at with the Central animation explanation.

Your Central recreation is fab, have been wanting someone to do something like that for ages Smile Are you planning to do any 'modern day' versions or are you purely interested in recreations? I'm sure a High-Definition version would be well recieved on here.

Thank you for the comments. Nice to hear from you Mulder. The flash schools stuff is looking great! Shame about the laptop.

The 1997 version of the central "cake" logo is not the best - IMO a rushed attempt. The trajectory wobbles and the purple ball throws the physics of a splash out the window Wink

Thanks for the idea! I've had an idea for the central balls.

Another idea! Will try and see what can be done with the finished version. TV forum seems to be more modern stuff on it, which to an extent is a pity. However, "pip" seems to be offering some lovely flash ideas.

bye for now.

Wow, looks good!

One minor nitpick - the cake logo was designed in 1985, not 1986. There's a file featuring it on the PP from December that year.

Hmm, hovering the middle ground this is between TV Websites and Mocks but my money falls to TV Websites really. Nice though, never fails to impress.

It seems like a very nice site, althogh it is still a bit "under construction". I've read the articles about the "rotator" on TV Ark and enjoyed them a lot (I presume it's tvark_schoolstv who wrote that article).

I actually saw the Central Production animation with the cake when I flicked through my channels a few days ago. I've seen it on the Internet, but not on 'real' TV. I have to agree with those who admire the cake, it was stunning, same class as the Hollywood logo animations of today. I didn't record it then but set the timer to record the next episode the following day, but then there was no animation, just a still disappointing caption.

"Boom. Doo-doo, dododo, doo-doo."

So it's defintately 85? Thanks for clearing that up. I know Central were using different computer systems. It wasn't until 87ish they were outsourcing rendering due to cost of workstations.

Cool, maybe the mods will move this?

Yes it is still under construction. It is more rolling updates. By that I mean it is updated when I have some decent stuff to add. I will be starting my ITV Schools on 4 design article later today.

Cheers dudes and dudettes!

I can confirm this - the cake features on Central's 1985 Christmas tape.

Excellent site; nice to see such fine re-creations in progress and will definitely keep track of this one in future.

This brings up a a question for me, hope you don't mind. If you're starting on your article today, whatever happened to the content you spent some 3 years or so collating, encoding and making available? Wouldn't imagine just redesigning it for TV Ark's style wouldn't have been too hard.

Erm, I thought that is what he had done?
