Reminiscing The Big Breakfast

Since this place is becoming a read-only archive from tonight, I've created a new thread over at TVLF as a continuation of this one.
See you there!

Thank You Asa!

So I donated £20 this afternoon (basically £1 for every year TVF has been in existence) that and the gov't is also contributing an extra fiver on top of that thanks to the Gift Aid scheme. It ain't much, but it is for a very worthy cause after all.

Comic Relief 2021

That Gary Barlow skit with Matt Lucas was basically crap. This entire show is not very Comic, and it'll be a Relief when it's over!

Comic Relief 2021

Tonight's effort, feels more like Comic Relief INO and not very Red Nose Day at all.

Comic Relief 2021

Geez that "Sunshine On Leith" segment was depressing. David Tennant got a bit choked up in the link straight after it.

(FWIW ... I'm watching via my YouView box on a slight delay of a few minutes.)

Comic Relief 2021

The £25.4 million raised so far is very impressive for a Comic Relief night that's comparatively cutback compared to previous ones. That said, for an event known as "Comic Relief" there's been very little comic stuff happening. It's just feels like a generic BBC charity telethon show, albeit without an audience in the studio. The whole thing needs a bit of a reboot in time for next year's Sport Relief.

Comic Relief 2021

They've just shown the trailer "2020 - The Movie". Mind you, I hardly think that's going to be made into an actual film.
Let's face it, no-one would want to make feature film on how the pandemic has affected people's lives.

Comic Relief 2021

So I see somebody's managed to fix the old Tumble Dryer, and hasn't replaced it with the all new TommyRot3000 edition!

The Big Breakfast is back!

I think they would have a smaller than usual crew in the house for the duration, with some sort of bubble setup. I assume (and hope) they'll still be using the original Big Breakfast house for this one-off special, as opposed to a mock version of how it use to look when the show was at it's peak, but in an ordinary TV studio somewhere in London.

I'm thinking they might have Mo Gilligan and whoever his co-host will be in a bubble/cohort for a while before the show airs, if social distancing rules are still a thing by then.

Speaking of the actual house, I wonder if the owners have managed to sell the place since they put it on the market.

Good Morning Britain

I think the breaking point for ITV, would be when advertisers and sponsors starting getting cold feet about being associated with GMB, and the vitriolic comments from one of the main presenters. Eventually, Piers Morgan is going to go one step too far, and advertisers might even go as far as to give ITV an ultimatum ... either he goes or we go. Morgan's position would be untenable, and ITV would have little or no choice but to get rid, even if that might have a negative effect on GMB's ratings overall.

EDIT:
Got an email from Change.org linking to this petition:
Have Piers Morgan removed from GMB and investigated by OFCOM for bullying and racism.

…and finally

I have to echo everyone else's sentiments about the imminent closure of TVF. It did come as a shock to read one of my favourite places on the interwibble is coming to an end. I'm glad the site is being kept around as a read-only archive, so it's not going away completely.

I have been a member of TVF, since (I think) 2001 or thereabouts, but probably not early enough to have had the Founding Member label next to my username. I do, of course, remember the big TVF server crash of 2003, and (IIRC) everyone had to re-register new accounts. Not sure what my post count was before that incident ... not that post count totals are that important anyway!

Anyway, I would of course, like many other in this thread have already done, express my thanks to Asa for all his hard work and dedication keeping this forum going for the past 20 years. Kudos also to all the moderators past and present for helping to maintain order and keep the peace when various threads have strayed way off-topic. What might seem like a rather thankless task, but at least appreciated by some of us.

I'm happy that when TVF closes, we'll have an all-new forum to go to which will hopefully be a worthwhile continuation of what this forum has been since the days when almost everyone was using IE, and some of us were still trundling along with Netscape!

This is not a goodbye, merely an Au revoir.

TVF Confessions

I think when the BBC's Royal Charter comes up for renewal in 2027, there's likely to be radical changes to how the BBC is funded, and the way the whole Corporation is run. The days of the TV Licence are numbered, and the entire organisation needs a major shake-up.

With that said, I don't agree with the "Defund The BBC" lot, but I do believe the TVL is an anachronism that needs to be replaced.
