Apart from individual channel idents, I'm surprised broadcasters would rely on a release from the Press Association, leaving them all scrambling to get the announcement on air with a presenter in appropriate clothing etc.
Would there not be an embargoed release to a senior individual at the BBC/ITN/Sky or at least a warning that they need to standby for an announcement from Buckingham Palace?

Forest was intended for extreme and sombre situations - so in the case of the Queen dying - it would be suitable on that basis. TWO would either use Silk or Swan for the most part.
Programming schedules would be cleared heavily on the major channels in favour of breaking news coverage and documentaries on the Queen's life; edgy comedy and satire in particular on the BBC would be absent for several days.
With such a situation like this, it also remains to be seen whether ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 would also lead their digital offshoots into breaking news, or let through the usual schedule in the wake of the Queen's death.
On the whole, a fascinating and intriguing article. Reading it right now as I speak.
It surely would be the forest ident if we're speculating about which of the on air set they'll use? Of course they might use something entirely different.

I wish to ask about the presenter clothes, and if somber colours are still bench mark? If you look here when ITV broke the news about the queen mum: https://youtu.be/gFoEC2O9R4U?t=2562 yet go forward an hour and she changed. https://youtu.be/y7QJ2oEXYBU?t=37

There would no doubt be some sort of tip off from the palace to one of the royal correspondents, you don't do that sort of job and not get good contacts.
Remember too that it won't necessarily happen suddenly, an illness will put everyone on standby and I'd imagine various channels will open

I take it only the British companies will get first acknowledge of this ie BBC/ITN/Sky and it will them who will break the news to the UK and the rest of the world?
Also If the queens trips or falls or god forbid has a stork, thats a completely different speed.

I'm surprised ITV decided to keep Stars In Their Eyes and Laughter File in the schedules. Clearly they were nervous having spelt Denis wrong.

Sombre colours was a BBC guideline rather than ITV, but Mary was initially wearing grey because she'd been wearing it during the news bulletin that she'd been presenting before the news broke. I think ITN still would have taken the view that black was most appropriate.
