Incidentally, Lambeth have an archive of old planning notices on their website, including loads to do with the LWT/ITV complex, such as loads of refusals for temporary signage (p131 is a grudging approval for an ITV telethon scrolling screen) and the original 1968 approval for the building, submitted only five weeks after LWT first went on air (pages 170/171 - may be best to start there and then go backwards): https://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/Statutory%20Register%20PDF%20Files/0355A%20Upgrove%20Manor%20Way%20-%20Upper%20Marsh.pdf

Fascinating. Page 122 appears to be the modifications for the construction of Studio 7.
ITV seem to not understand how much their two main studios on this complex are needed. The lack of proper television studios in London is evident. Studio 1 and 2 are not only used by ITV shows, but also other UK productions. For example in this week alone, Studios 1 and 2 will be home to The Graham Norton Show, The Last Leg, Have I Got News For You and QI.
It seems that ITV want a much reduced base, with probably 2-3 small sized studios built side by side, probably each ranging no bigger that 3,000 Sq Ft each.
Now that BBC Studios 1, 2 and 3 at Television Centre will be up and running from 1st September 2017, maybe ITV felt these three studios can take the pressure from their three studios which will close by Spring 2018.

I would hazard a guess that they do understand, given that it's the business they are in.

Some of the other applications also refer to alterations on the roof of the podium block to accommodate GMTV around the same time.
Is it financially wise to bulldoze down three of the main studios, which have provided and still provide proper studio facilities to not just ITV, but for so many others.
The studios are very busy, I am sure they must be making money in catering for a raft of shows from non-ITV shows - QI, Have I Got News For You, The Graham Norton Show, The Last Leg etc.
Raising these studios to rubble seems financially pointless, and complete disgrace, considering the heritage of the centre. It seems ITV have taken the BBC example, go for the cash and to hell with heritage and studio space.
