It's a bit disappointing that in 2017, BBC One can't broadcast regional programming (in England) in HD.
The situation's been the same since its launch in 2010. I hope it changes sometime this year.

Why? Do you know how much it cost to have HD channel? Do you know how much Band width it take up? For what, a 30min promgramme, and nothing really else. Its not cost effective.

With DQF and the BBC's coffers being severely restrained, it's not worth at the moment converting regions to HD at the minute.
There's no way that the BBC will convert multiple regions for such an expensive sum!
And with how HD channels cost to run - you only have to look at the large amount of services locked behind the Sky and Virgin paywall.

Because it's 2017. and HD has been around for over 10 years and anyway ITV can broadcast regional news, And besides, BBC One HD has regional variants for Scotland, Wales and NI.
It's especially disappointing if you live in London, several times BBC London news has started on BBC One HD only to be replaced with a card stating BBC One HD cannot yet .....
Some people may question though why there is a need to watch a local report in HD about a cat that got stuck up a tree and was rescued by fire-fighters. Still, each to their own.

It's not really about that, it's about not having to change the channel back and forth at the start and end of regional programmes (which is why a lot of people just stick to the SD channel and get a sub-par experience)

Yeah, having to switch to SD for regional news is a bit of a pain up the backpipe.
