THis is quite nice. Of course this set uses the signature NBC Virtual Window. Looks great. Seeing this set makes me wonder even more, what the heck happened to WNBC New York and their new set.

This 2 anchor shot is brilliant. Looks so real. Like the old WNBC set.

Over the past few months big changes at several stations owned Quincy Media. 6 of them got the same new sets, The graphics packages were the same, with variations. What's unusual is they allowed the stations to pick their own music packages. Which is nice. The stations are mainly small markets sprinkled mainly in the Midwest.
WREX, WKOW, WEEK, KBJR, WBNG, WPTA, and KWWL

Most of the sets are exactly same but WKOW in Madison Wisconsin WREX has the better lighting plans. The weather centers might be flipped.

So the TEGNA owned NBC affiliate in WACO, KCEN, moved to a new building and got a "new" set. A set that was previously at KUSA in Denver and used for over 10 years. It's outfitted with Sony PTZ cameras (which apparently were installed at KHOU when they got a new set) and an apparently old GV Kayak switcher.

H/T to the folks at TVNewsTalk.net.

TEGNA has quickly become one of my least favourite station group. Its fine they didnt shell out money for a new set. Got it. KCEN got a new facility. Great. But they couldnt even use cleaner durantrans to modernize the set a little bit?! Come On! 90s blue murals. So old and passe. Though I do like how the costs of equipting the stations are coming down. The tripod mount PTZ camera with autocue are intesting. Even thought they probably could afford robotic cameras, this is the next best thing. Not sure whats on the studio floor. Is that carpet?

Interesting that WBNG which is NBC affiliate uses the exact same music as WHTM which is an ABC affiliate owned by Media General.

I guess the music is stock music in which anyone can use.

In the U.S., news music is sold on a market-exclusive basis, meaning that a station buys rights to a certain package for its market, but an entirely unrelated station can purchase it in another market. Large station groups are an exception -- they may buy a package for all of their owned stations.

You can get similar things here, LBC and BBC Radio Solent had the same basic jingle package in the 90s

The theme is called the Guardian. And it was commissioned by the COX station group originally for WSB 2 Atlanta (Cox). Cox owns stations from various networks. Cox is brilliant station group. They spend money and they allow, for the most part, the stations to have their own identities instead of mandating everything. Though they did commission this theme for WSB, it seems many COX stations are stating to take it.

Here is a repository of all the news themes used in the USA. Its a great resource if you enjoy news theme and their use.

I can't tell what the floor is. But the brown paper is put on the floor to protect it while the sets being constructed. I am slightly confused as to why the paper was left in the corner chroma key wall. I would think if they were going to build a corner wall like that they'd want to use it where the presenter is fully in vision.

Apparently they Weather center has yet to be built. So the dodgy stone area where all the desks are is apparently temporary (unless the stones are a part of the final design).
