Erm, and how many of those "HD ready" news broadcasts are actually received by viewers in HD?

Keep up!

I'll give you a clue -- several larger regions than some poxy little minor with 1.7 million potential viewers are not in HD.

The Bristol studio has been "HD ready" for quite a while now AIUI, but ITV HD still TX-es Central West all the way down to Penzance & the Isle of Scilly. Rolling Eyes

Given that a few northern ITV regions finally appeared on ITV HD not that long ago, it's disappointing that there's still no word as to during which particular decade/century/lifetime West Country HD (well, at least one sub-region thereof) will ever sodding well be TX-ed. The pathetically slow roll-out of regional/sub-regional variants on the HD channel is infuriating.

ITV West Country, both opts will be in HD on Sky and Freesat next month. Freeview will continue to receive Central West.

In vision link from Gillian before Emmerdale tonight:

The in vision links are definitely few and far between this week. Before this week, every prime time link would have been in vision, with only the daytime and news links being out of vision. This week we've probably only had one in vision link per night.

Just had our first promo with English voiceover during Emmerdale. An ad for 'Meet the Parents' was just shown with a female voiceover saying 'Starts Saturday at 7:00 on UTV'.

Widescreen did take an equally ridiculous long time - didn't Westcountry News only switch in 2009?

Westcountry didn't go full 16:9 until they moved to Bristol.

The interesting part being that Central had 16:9 digital transmission facilities and studios from 1997 onwards (with the move to Gas Street) - and they even experimentally broadcast some CNW in 16:9 in 2001. But they had to wait until 2007 to make the switch (of course transmission by then had moved, and half of the equipment sold off!)

With something like 7 or 8 HD regional variants in England and Wales, ITV are still miles ahead of the BBC when it comes to broadcasting the regions in HD.

Well that was a bit odd! Gillian just signed off her last link with "And it's been great, thank you!" 🤔

Just watched this again and realised it's Holly Willoughby's voice!

Makes sense, since she's the host. Probably recorded two versions of that line, one for UTV and one for ITV. Three if STV is running that trailer too (do they just redub ITV's and add their own endboard, or are their trails completely different?).

Holly had voiced the STV promo as well, including the ending day, time and "STV".
